I have a 3.5 year old daughter, and been married for over 7 years with the same man. We have both been faithful. I don’t recall testing for HSV previously but I tested now that I am 2 months pregnant and the result showed me at 2.39 with a reference of 0.00 – 0.90 being normal. I tested in Labcorp. My concern is can this be a false positive? How can I absolutely be sure? My partner is getting tested tomorrow morning. We have never had any rash or any bumps in our genitals.
HSV2
An index value of 2.39 is most certainly in the low positive range. The CDC recommends confirmatory testing for everyone who has an index value between 1.1 and 3.5. At 2.39, there is a 50-50 chance that this is a false positive. You need a confirmatory test and the best is the herpes western blot. That test is not routinely available through labs like LabCorp or Quest but you are welcome to ask. If you cannot get it in that way, our clinic can arrange for this test to be drawn at a local lab for you to be shipped to the University of Washington. Please let me know if you have other questions. And congratulations on your pregnancy!

That sounds great! How can I arrange with your clinic to get blood drawn at a local lab?
As you can imagine its very important for me to know the accurate result.
I’m located in Pembroke Pines, Florida
Thanks!
OK, so Florida then.
You just need to call the clinic and make a phone consultation appointment with me and we’ll get it arranged.

Do my odds get better if my husbands test came back negative?
We’ve been married for 7 years and we have a very sexual relationship with each other only.
Yes, I do think the odds are better if your husband’s test comes back negative but it still isn’t certain. And that’s especially true if you have lots of sex – lucky you!
