I been tested for both hsv1 and hsv2 a total of 5 times. I tested negative for hsv2 all 5 times, but the last two times I have tested for hsv1 it came back as equivocal. The dates I was test was 8/1/2017 by quest, 8/27/21 by labcorp, 12/10/21 by quest, 2/02/22 by quest equivocal 0.96, 2/12/22 by quest 1.08, the test that was equivocal was hsv1.

I had a new sex partner after I got tested around 12/15/21 with a condom virginal and oral missionary style standing sex.

Then after that I had sex with my girlfriend unprotected vaginal only on 01/01/22 and 01/02/22. She also was cheating on me for a while maybe about six months or longer I’m not sure. She said her and the other guy she was cheating on me with use a condom ,but I don’t know for sure.

Then I had sex with a different partner 01/27/22 with a condom missionary style standing not skin on skin contact.

I never had any sores or lesions or any symptoms of herpes in my life. I never had any core sores ever I have no clue why would that be equivocal and the test numbers going up some. I trust my girlfriend that she was telling the truth at the time, but now I think she maybe having unprotected sex when she was cheating on me.

I had plans on retesting on 3/11/22 on the igg to see if the numbers go up or down.

      1. Should I ask to see her igg herpes results because she have seen my previous negative results? I have not told her about my equivocal results because I’m not sure if they are positive or not.

      2. What are the odds of me contracting GHSV1 from those equivocal results?

      3. She told me recently she had a lump on her vaginal lips, what could that be?

      4. Can these igg numbers be possible to go down?

      5. Is retesting four weeks after equivocal results a good time to retest?

      6. Should I retest with labcorp instead of quest to see if my results change?

      7. What are the odds of these equivocal results being wrong?

      8. What are your thoughts on what I should do next? Can you give me your take on things?

Equivocal is not positive. If you want to be sure about her results, you could ask to see them

      2. What are the odds of me contracting GHSV1 from those equivocal results?
The IgG test for HSV 1 is quite poor – it misses 30% of infections compared to the western blot and also gives false positive.

      3. She told me recently she had a lump on her vaginal lips, what could that be?
Many things too numerous to list – HPV and herpes and cysts among them

      4. Can these igg numbers be possible to go down?
      Certainly

      5. Is retesting four weeks after equivocal results a good time to retest?
      Yes

      6. Should I retest with labcorp instead of quest to see if my results change?
I don’t think it matters, honestly, they are both poor tests compared to the gold standard western blot

      7. What are the odds of these equivocal results being wrong?
Equivocal is just that – neither negative nor positive but I have only seen one HSV 2 equivocal result confirm as positive by the western blot

      8. What are your thoughts on what I should do next? Can you give me your take on things?
Have you ever had a cold sore in your lifetime? That’s the virus that causes cold sores. Many people get HSV 1 as children from an adult kissing them with a cold sore. About half the US population has HSV 1, very common indeed.

I don’t kiss that often because of the risk of herpes, so the only person I have kiss was my girlfriend. We have not kiss at all last year because we was having problems.

What other steps should I take I’ve been very depressed behind this situation and I don’t know what to do?

I wonder if we may have spoken this past Tuesday? Maybe not but this discussion is familiar. If you want the best answer about whether you’re infected with HSV one or not, you should do the herpes westernblot. You can do that with your own provider in coordination with the University of Washington
or with me by scheduling an E visit, if we have not talked.
