I messed up and got drunk and went to a Strip club. The girl licked the top of my penis about 5 times (not very long) and I gave her oral (tongue to clitoris) for about 30 seconds. Then she used her hand on me but spit on me a few times for lube I guess. I also touched her with my fingers and she was wet. I already have HSV1 and have outbreaks on my lip about 3 times a year in the same exact place (lower lip). Had an outbreak on my lip in the usual place about 3-4 weeks ago and took famciclover and it was gone in 5-6 days. This dumb thing I did happened 7 days ago. Right after I washed my mouth and penis with soap like crazy in the bathroom and also drank a ton of alcohol based mouthwash and gargled. I have no symptoms of any kind except guilt for doing something so stupid. I have been tested before and was positive for Type 1 and negative for type 2. I had a cold already when this occured and had a post nasal drip that turned into a slight sore throat this weekend (4 days after) and am now on antibiotics for it (but that is typical for me). I mentioned my experience to the doctor and he said my risk is extremely low but said herpes is the risk he’d be concerned about if anything at all. Said if I saw no outward symptoms for 10 days not to worry about it. I’m worried and do not want to infect my wife. I have not gone near her and feel terrible that I did this for so many reasons. So my question is should I be worried? Does my Type 1 protect me from anything? Should I get tested?

The big concern with receiving oral sex from her is the acquisition of HSV 1 from her mouth. But you already have that, so this is not a concern for you. Once you have HSV 1 in one location on your body it is extremely unlikely you would get it in a new location (genital). You giving her 30 seconds of oral sex does not present a substantial risk of acquiring HSV 2 from her genital area. HSV 2 does not like the mouth area much at all and the contact was extremely brief and we don’t even know if she has HSV 2, right? And you did all sorts of things like washing and gargling that may or may not reduce the risk but certainly can’t hurt All in all, low risk. I wish I could tell you there is zero risk. I can’t say that but I can say it is minimal for sure. HSV 1 does not protect you against acquiring HSV 2.
As for testing, your call. If you do test I would recommend testing NOW and then repeating in 12-16 weeks. That way, you have a baseline value to compare against. I know you mentioned that you had tested before – have you had any concerning contacts since then that could have changed your HSV 2 status?

What if any symptoms should I watch for?

well since the part of you that was exposed to possible HSV 2, since HSV 1 is not a risk, you would look for lesions on the mouth but you would not be able to separate them from cold sores as they would look the same. The cold sore that you did describe that you treated was well before this potential exposure, correct?

Yes about three weeks before this exposure and it was fully healed. My cold sores always happen in the same exact place on my lower lip too.

Then I don’t think that has anything at all to do with this situation. My best guess (and it is a guess) that you are likely fine.
