I was diagnosed with genital hsv1 10 years ago. 3 years ago I had a new partner and suspected I contracted hsv 2 as well. I have never been able to get a positive culture on the lesion. Last week I had blood work done that showed hsv 1 antibodies but was negative for hsv 2 antibodies. Can the western blot test be used to rule out a false negative IgG due to a glycoprotein g deficient strain of hsv 2?
To clarify, the title of my post was incorrect. I’m concerned about false negative IgG not IGM
yes, the western blot would provide you with a clear answer and it would pick up all strains of HSV 2.
