I have asked you a question about 6 years ago, anyway, I was diagnosed in 2010 for hsv 2, much to my surprise because I was married for 10 years, I started a new relationship, I had my ex husb tested, neg, the new relationship was neg, my results were igg around 1.5, I was tested many times and this was the value, once she sent to a different lab with a higher value, around 4 but lab corp again after was 1.5. I did the western blot and it was pos for 1 and 2, which all my other tests for 1 was neg,
I have never had an outbreak to this day. I also have never passed this to my partners, one was 1 year relationship and other 3 years, which just ended. both were tested after the relationship.
I guess im confused if this test was accurate? is it possible to never pass this? I haven’t been tested in about 4 years. at the time of dx of WB I was stressed with hives. once in 2000 I had blisters on my ear, dr said it was herpes and I told him he was crazy, he swabbed but it was neg, my dr said it was so long ago that testing has changed. one day after I had surgery for hysto, aug 2016 I had a spot on my breast, looked like a blister, just one, derm said it was keratosis and it will always be there, 3 days later it was gone.
what is you opinion? do you know where to get a biokit test? is it possible to never pass anything? or could the antibody have come from my ear?
thanks -

The western blot being positive does define that you have infection with both HSV 1 and HSV 2. The thing on your ear could definitely have been a herpes outbreak, pretty likely HSV 1. The person who has HSV 1 in place before acquiring HSV 2 is less likely to have symptoms of HSV 2 infection as the HSV 1 antibody keeps things very much under control, for many people. And yes, some people never pass their infection to someone else.
The western blot is a lot more sensitive for HSV 1 than the screening tests that you have had in the past.

Thanks. I have also never had a cold sore in my life. The igg tests were always neg. it just made me curious if the western blot was actually as good as they say.
Is it possible that someone can test pos for antibody, and the antibody is actually false and triggered by something else? I ask this because I heard the hepatitis c antibody could do this. I work as a nurse and was tested for hep c and it shows pos while the pcr tests show neg. was told that the body’s defense mechanism could trigger the false pos. -

I’m confused because you said in the above post that your IgG tests were always negative but then in the first post you said you tested positive at 1.5, which is positive and then positive at 4.0 – both are positive, not negative. If you mean that you tested negative on HSV 1, a new study shows that the IgG screening test misses one of four HSV 1 infections.
If a person tests positive on the wester blot and we swab their genitals daily for four months using PCR, the most sensitive swab test, 95% will shed virus during that time.
you have had positive IgG tests for HSV 1 AND a positive western blot. You need to believe that you are infected but are fortunate not to have genital outbreaks. Again the ear blisters could certainly have been HSV 1.

Sorry for the confusion. I mean I have been neg for hsv 1 on igg and yes pos for hsv 2 with 1.5 on all lab Corp tests and 4 with a different lab. I have never had a cold sore on my mouth and I have never had an outbreak on the genital area and have never passed this on to anyone I was with. That’s why this seems so weird to me to be pos for hsv 2

well, 80% of those infected with HSV 2 would say, when asked, do you have genital herpes? they would say no. So you are not alone.
