I recently had a STD screening and was positive for hsv2 with an index of 1.13. The test was done through LabCorp and it was igg type specific w/reflex. I’m 34 and have had 2 sexual partners in my life and none in the past 8 years. I’m starting a new relationship and she wanted me to get tested.
How worried should I be?
Should I get retested or get the western blot test?
I’m stressing pretty bad and the doctor at the urgent care was less than helpful and gave me a prescription for valtrex and was certain it was positive and the results were definite. Please advise. Thanks
Also forgot to mention that I’ve never had any outbreaks or any issues like that before.
What did the reflex testing show?
There is a 90% or better chance that this is a false positive result and yes, you need the western blot. However, if the reflex test was negative, you could simply believe that result since your index value is so very very low.
