› Forums › Herpes Questions › False positive? High HSV1 igg, equivocal HSV2 igg
Hey Terri,
I contracted GHSV1 back in August 2016 (confirmed with a swab). I’ve never had a recurrent outbreak (that I’ve noticed).
March 29 of 2023 I did a ten panel test and my HSV1 igg was 30 and I was negative for HSV2.
October 31 of 2023 my HSV1 igg was 35 and my HSV2 igg was equivocal with .95. This came as a shock to me since I have had no symptoms.
The only person I could have gotten it from was my ex boyfriend (based on timing and my negative test in March). We were sleeping together from end of May to end of August. So I tested 9.5 weeks after the very last time we had sex.
I have a pending inhibition test from quest (my original tests were from labcorp). I should have my results within the next few days I’d think but the anxiety is killing me.
Do you think I could have a false “equivocal” for HSV2? Or did I test too soon at 9.5 weeks, assuming he infected me on the very last day we slept together?
He claims he’s been tested and has never had symptoms.
Thanks!
An equivocal is just that – neither positive nor negative.
I would bet money that your IA is negative. If it is positive, I would recommend the blot. We are seeing several false positive IA results now.
Terri
