Hello,
I had gotten a Quest herpeselect IGG blood test as part of a screening I had because I had made the mistake of not using protection. My results came back 1st time as 1.24 and the second test at 1.04 a week apart from each other. The first test was a month after sleeping with her and the second was 5 weeks after sleeping with her. I have been totally asymptomatic, and the girl I was dating that I was concerned may have transmitted it is tested annually with a full panel, and has always been negative. I did alot of research and found that this seems likely to be a false positive given the range I am in. I would confirm with a western blot, but NY doesn’t allow me to send a sample out of state. I am hoping that you can give me some advice?
Unfortunately this seems to be outside of my doctor’s knowledge base. He didn’t believe it was possible that an IGG test could return false positives even within the 1.1 to 3.5 range. I’m in general really surprised at the lack of knowledge and resources available for such a common virus. Again anything you can tell me would be really appreciated.
Not only is it possible that this is a false positive, it is very likely it is a false positive.
We can get you a blot in NY as part of our study. Just follow the link on the home page if you want to do that.

Hi Terri I retested again now at 7 weeks with LabCorp on an IGG test. The test came back negative for both HSV types. I just wanted to thank you for your help and to say that this site is a God send for people in the position I was in.
You are most welcome. I’m so glad you pursued further testing.
