Hi,
So I recently just got in a new relationship and decide to get tested just cause. My blood test came back for positive antibodies for HSV 1 with an IGG score of 3.03. I never believed that I was exposed, don’t have any clue when or how. I have no symptoms whatsoever, doctor did not give me any information or medication. Just stated to let my doctor know when I’m pregnant if she is not mine anymore. In 2015 I had a bad irritation done there and did a culture test for hsv but both came back negative. Is this a false positive? Should I get retested?
It could be a false positive yes, you fall into the low positive range (1.1 to 3.5) and the CDC recommends that you get a good confirmatory test and the western blot is the best. I’m sorry that your doctor didn’t recommend a confirmatory test, based on your index value. You should get this test done so if you are infected, you can accurately notify partners AND get on daily antiviral medication to reduce transmission if you are having sex with an uninfected person.
You can work with your own provider to get this test or me. It is done only at the University of Washington
