Hi Terri
I had a routine GYN visit and asked to have an STI panel ran (05/21/22). The following week, I received my test results.
HSV 1 and 2-Spec Ab, IgG w/Rfx
LabcorpHSV1: 7.94 H
HSV2: 1.29I’ve never had positive results in the past. No signs or symptoms. However, it’s been years since I’ve tested (pregnancy 2010). Recently treated for a yeast infection, which I had during my GYN visit, and I’ve had small cold sore-like breakouts (just bumps)on my nose in the past. I thought those were due to my oily skin.
Reading your forum and several googled post. I am wondering could the HSV2 be a false-positive result. Also, the nurse at my GYN stated the HSV2 results could be a result of cross-reactivity from the HSV1 result.
I am scheduled to have my labs redrawn (7/17/2023).
Sexual encounters: April-June 2033(2 of those encounters started off protected but ended unprotected the remainder were protected).
Received Oral sex from 2 individuals during the timeline provided above. One being my sexual partner mentioned above.
Questions:
1. Is it likely my results are false-positive?2. I’ve had COVID-19 and received the vaccines. Could those antibodies cause a positive result? I read an article about a study.
3. Should I wait longer before being tested again, or ask for the WB test on 7/17?
4. Is cross-reactivity a possibility?

Hard to say since you’ve had an unprotected sexual encounter quite recently2. I’ve had COVID-19 and received the vaccines. Could those antibodies cause a positive result? I read an article about a study.
While that’s possible, we’ve seen false positive on the herpes IgG test way before we ever had COVID.3. Should I wait longer before being tested again, or ask for the WB test on 7/17?
You should wait 3 months from any unprotected intercourse to get the western blot done.4. Is cross-reactivity a possibility?

Additional questions:
I also had an abnormal HCV results, but my primary physician doesn’t appear to be too concerned.
Because my body built antibodies due to me having COVID and receiving the vaccines, would those antibodies cause other test to reflect false-positive results?
Is it possible having an active yeast infection caused my results to be off?

Abnormal Hep C results and they aren’t concerned? I think you should definitely be pursuing this and asking for explanations about why they aren’t concerned.
We don’t know what the false positive IgG results are reflecting – it could be many different things.
A yeast infection would not throw off results.Terri

Hi Terri
I am back seeking your expertise. I’ve received my 30-day second blood draw on 07/21 & here are my results:
HSV 1 and 2-Spec Ab, IgG w/Rfx
LabcorpHSV1: 7.93 H
HSV2: 1.18Is it normal for the values to drop if a person is positive for HSV2?
I am confused.

I would say that is very unlikely. I still suspect a false positive result
