Hi Terri,
first of all, thanks for all your help.
So in Nov ’22 I had unprotected sex w/ someone and I got tested in Dec ’22 after I was having intense flu like symptoms. I don’t believe I had any big(?) warts but I did notice some white head looking things around my vulva area.
My first results were 1.16 HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec and Negative for the HSV-2 IgG Supplemental Test on Dec ’22.
I notified my most recent partner, and he told me him and his other partner both tested neg (although I haven’t seen their results, so I don’t know how honest they are).
I got re-tested this week, and my results were 1.06 HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec and Negative for the HSV-2 IgG Supplemental Test.
My gyno office said this is a positive and probably an initial exposure and said I could re-test in another month, which I will.
I’m wondering is it possible that I have a false positive and am I a good candidate for the Western blot? I tried to set up an appointment, but had trouble accessing the calendar and did not see available dates.
Thank you again!
Also, my first test was conducted 19 days after having unprotected sex. and my second date was conducted 51 days after unprotected sex. Thank you again so much Terri, really appreciate it!
Your GYN is totally incorrect. Lots of people test in the equivocal range and never go on to test positive. With those two people testing negative, I think you are very likely in the clear, but only about 6 weeks passed for testing so you might want to do one more at 10 weeks out. I think it will remain negative or equivocal – not to worry about the equivocal.

Hi Terri,
thanks so much for your reply! If I get another equivocal on my next IgG test, should I consider that a negative? Would it be a good idea to get a Western blot to confirm? thank you again!
I now have had three people who had equivocal results on the IgG HSV 2 test test positive on the western blot. That’s not very many but it happens
Terri
