Okay, heres my story. I have been with the same guy since 2011( he took my virginity). I have always got tested but never for herpes or hiv. I went to the doctor Decemember 2014 and she told me I need to check for everything so I did, and I tested negative for everything except Herpes 2. I tested positive with a number of 1.65. My doctor told me this was very high and I for sure had it, so I have been really sad and confused at the same time because me and my partner of years haven’t had any outbreaks down there. But I assumed the doctor was always right. However, a year has passed and we still haven’t had ANY OUTBREAKS down there, not even a cold sore on my lip( I never have had one). We haven’t had sex outside of our relationship, 2016 will make 5 years. I have did plenty of research and now see that my number is actually in the low range and a chance it is false. Im confused on what to do because my doctor has been stuck on the fact that I for sure have it and trying to prescribe me medicine but I refuse to take any medicine when I don’t have anything going on down there. Also, is there a chart that shows how many test are proven false positive that I can show her so I can have information so she won’t think I’m just crazy? She insists one of us stepped outside the relationship but I can assure you that is not true.

You are a wise woman! There is better than a 75% chance that you had a false positive on your test. Please – get a herpes western blot to find out if you really have herpes or not. Our clinic can order that for you at a lab near you and they will ship the sample to the University of Washington OR you can contact UW directly, they will send you a test kit that you an take to your doctor, they will draw your blood, spin it down and ship it to UW. There is a chart in this article:
BMC Infect Dis. 2005 Oct 14;5:84.
Use of “biokit HSV-2 Rapid Assay” to improve the positive predictive value of Focus HerpeSelect HSV-2 ELISA.
Morrow RA1, Friedrich D, Meier A, Corey L.You have been misinformed. I hope you will pursue accurate confirmatory testing.

THANKYOU TERRI!
I went to my doctors appointment yesterday with all this information and she is still trying to convince me that im being indenial and basically saying im hoping for something that isn’t possible. Whats the number to call so that I can order the kit and get it shipped to my house? After that, I take it do the doctor…get blood drawn and they ship it right? and also How do I request that Washington Clinic contacts me directly with results?

I’m sorry but I don’t know the details of the test shipping if you go directly through UW. If you go directly through them, they will give you full instructions. We at Westover Heights also can offer the test to be drawn at a Quest lab near you and they will ship it to UW – call the clinic for that info – either way, it gets there.
I don’t think you are in denial – you are well read. There’s a big difference.
