Hi Terry, I would like to ask you about my situation and guide me on what to do next. Last Tuesday, I only had unprotected oral sex with my partner, as far as I know, he was healthy and did not have STDs we both agreed to have unprotected oral sex which is very dumb for both sizes. Two days after having oral sex, he texted me saying that if I had herpes before, and I checked 6 months ago, I was clean for all STDs including herpes. After the exposure, I first had a sore throat, and a cold, but my anxiety is killing thinking that I might have something due to the text I got, I also checked my mouth for any changes I’ve done it every day, and I’ve checked my genital parts but nothing has changed. No pain when I pee and not any bumps has been detected yet. However, I did have a GGI blood test done after 4 days of exposure because my mind was killing and my anxiety. All my results came back normal except HSV-2 and shows IgG, Type 5.68, I took it in Labcorp, but I got a message I need to retest again due to being false positive, over the weekend I’ve read a lot, and everyone experienced is different so my question to you is What should I do next?; Should I retest in the same lab AGAIN according to them, they said the HSV-2 Confirmation Test. This test is used to confirm or rule out an HSV-2 infection by using enhanced and more sensitive testing methodologies due to being a false positive. I would like to ask what is the possibility that I have a false negative since I took the test early exposure? Should I wait 12 weeks for the western blot test?, what is the best way to go if my partner what to have sex so that I don’t spread it to him, assuming I don’t have any symptoms, I really do not what to do next, should I start treatment?; Please, help me, and thank you in advance for taking the time to help me out.

Did you ask the partner why they asked you that?
And let me be clear – your HSV 2 was 5.68 at labcorp, correct? You could do their confirmatory test but I don’t trust it – too many false positives compared to negative western blots.
I’m not clear why you are concerned about false negatives – you have a positive?
You would not have an index value of 5.68 four days after being infected. If you are infected, it wasn’t from him. I think with that index value you could probably do the blot now. Lets get a better test done.Terri
