Hi Terri,
I have asked a few questions about oral herpes and oral sex in the past. I had been seeing someone with both hsv 1 & 2. Soon after we had been intimate with oral sex, I got a bad yeast infection. I took Monistat 7 and it cleared. Fast forward a month and soon after another experience together, it came back. Within three weeks or so of the first infection but about a week from the second experience. Discomfort, itch and burning.. no unusual discharge.
I’ve been reading online a lot… sometimes really bad to do. I’ve ran across a lot women who said they mistook herpes for a reaccuring yeast infection. When they were tested, in fact had herpes and not yeast. Is this possible? My question is what is the likelihood of herpes only coming out in itchy, uncomfortable yeast infection like symptoms. I would assume it would have to be hsv 1 from oral. Thanks!

I am assuming you have been tested and are negative for both?
Sometimes herpes and yeast do get mixed up. If you get the yeast infection again, be seen to be sure it’s just yeast. But if you had HSV 1, it would rarely recur so this seems unlikely to meTerri

My ob has advised against testing due to maybe having been exposed to hsv 1 at some prior time and not know it. I’ve never had sores either location. I saw the ob about an hour ago and he did a physical exam and tested for yeast and checked my ph but said it was hard to tell what kind of infection due to me taking a dose of Monistat before bed last night. He said there were no sores or rash of any kind. It feels better today after the over the counter meds.
If this continues should I do the normal blood test or would going straight to the western blot make more sense?

If it were hsv, would a yeast type of rash like symptoms start to clear so fast? Within two days?

Herpes lesions appear within 2-10 days after infection and take longer than 2 days to clear, but if he saw no lesions, that seems unlikely. Exposed to HSV 1? He means infected with HSV 1. There is no such thing as being “exposed” and positive on an antibody test – either you are infected or not. If you really want to know about your HSV 1 status, you could start with the IgG for HSV 1 but if negative, it could be because the test missed the infection and then you might want to go to the western blot.
