Hi Terri
I previously communicated with you on March 25th, stating that:
“Hi Terri – I was seeing someone for 2 years. Before we had sex he tested negative for HSV2. We broke up for some time and recently got back together. We had unprotected sex, and then he told me that during our breakup he had sex twice with someone who had HSV2. At that point he also told me that his ex-wife also had HSV2 but she never had a breakout during their 20+ year relationship (but who knows what to believe now).
So I had HSV 1&2 testing done by Quest with the following results:
HSV 1 IGG, Type Specific AB 2.15
HSV 2 IGG, Type Specific AB 2.26
I have had cold sores since I was a child so I wasn’t surprised by the positive results for HSV1. I was completely shocked by the HSV 2 results. After everything I have read I am wondering if I should do the Western Blot test. I’ve had no genital outbreaks.”
You encouraged me to have the Western Blot, which i did and am devastated (again) as it came back positive.
Do you have any additional thoughts before I start taking meds for the rest of my life? any chance the Western Blot can be false positive? any words of wisdom? You previously indicated that enough time had passed since my last sexual encounter with the infected individual.
There are no false positives on the western blot,no.
Has your partner been tested for HSV 2? If yes, is he positive? If he has not been tested,he needs to get tested. If he is positive, there is no need for you to take any medicine unless you start having outbreaks that bother you OR if you change partners and have sex with someone who is not infected. Please read the free Herpes Handbook on our website – I think it will give you lots of good info then come back and ask whatever questions you might have.
Terri
