      Hello Terri!
I have been following the forum since I was diagnosed one year ago with G-hsv1.
I’m a 26 yr old female & In April of 2021 I was diagnosed by swab and by blood test. I was shocked of course and terrified and in pain. My doctor told me they don’t prescribe daily meds for type 1. I personally went on goodrx and ordered them anyway.
I know there are only shedding rates and not transmission data, and the percentage goes down as time goes on. Since being diagnosed I have not seen a sign of it since, even when I was terribly ill with covid or flu. Since I have not seen any recurrence in a whole year does that mean I shed at a low percentage already? &/Or less likely to transmit? I’d like to take daily meds if with a partner in hopes that I will never transmit but am always fearful regardless even tho I myself forget I have it in day to day life.

So I suppose my final questions are as above. If I haven’t shown any symptoms ina year, does that mean I shed on a lower percentage &/or am less likely to transmit?
Would you trust relying only on valcyclovir in this instance to prevent transmission? (Of course doubling up with condoms + med is best but I’d like to go without condoms sometimes while still wanting to protect my partner best I can.

Absolutely. We have some new data showing the extremely low shedding rates in people with HSV 1 genital infection. After two years of being infected, the shedding rate is about 4 days out of an entire year.

      I would yes.

      Terri
