› Forums › Herpes Questions › Genital HSV 1 Pass to Partner Orally
I was in a monogamous relationship for 2 years which ended in December 2014. I have not had any sexual relations since that time (1 year) however in July (6 months later) I had an initial outbreak and was diagnosed with genital HSV 1. I have not had any further outbreaks since then. I understand that a future partner can contract the virus by having oral sex with me but can I pass this to a future partner by having oral sex with them?
If you only have HSV 1 genitally, you cannot transmit this to a partner by giving them oral sex, no.
And remember that if you have a partner who already has HSV 1, regardless of location, transmission is NOT an issue between you.
