Terri,
I have genital HSV2 and my husband does not. I also struggle with vaginismus. We would like to have a baby but I would prefer not to have unprotected sex because of the risk to my husband. For this reason (and vaginismus), I am interested in using an at-home insemination kit (injecting my husband’s sperm with the use of a medical-grade syringe) to try to conceive.
My question- If an outbreak is present or not, is it possible to infect a baby at the time of their conception? Would using an insemination syringe pose more HSV risks to baby than PIV sex?
There is no greater risk with artificial insemination than with intercourse for your baby, no. Intrauterine herpes for a baby is highly unusual and I don’t think you should worry about that while trying to conceive.
For completely different reasons, I had a “turkey baster” baby 32 years ago. Last year I told her about it – she laughed and laughed.
