I am a 40 yo bi-sexual male that was diagnosed with GHSV-1 in October 2019. Had a couple of lesions on my penis and scrotum that cleared in a week and no symptomatic recurrences since. Have been on suppressive Valtrex (400mg daily). I have never had unprotected sex (insertive partner only) with a male nor do I intend to do so. After some additional reading, my newest concern is a heightened risk to me of HIV even when I no lesions present. What do you and the data say about the increased risk to me as the insertive partner? Or is the heightened risk only related to GHSV-2?
As far as we know, and I think it will stay that way, genital HSV 1 is NOT a risk for HIV acquisition
