› Forums › Herpes Questions › GHSV-1 – Anxiety about OB locations
I had a confirmed diagnoses of GHSV-1 in May, 2016 through a swab. I have only had two known outbreaks, the second being in the fall of 2016 after my initial outbreak. I have been with my partner since 2016, who has confirmed OHSV-1 for approximately 20+ years, and has 1-2 outbreaks orally per year.
I recently have been having severe anxiety about OHSV-1 outbreaks. I have a couple of questions:
1. What is the likelihood that I contracted both GHSV-1 and OHSV-1 at the same time, but only had a GHSV-1 outbreak?
2. Can you quantify how likely it is to have an initial OHSV-1 outbreak 7 years after contracting the virus?
3. Is there any testing other than a swab during an outbreak to confirm where the virus lives in your nervous system?
1. What is the likelihood that I contracted both GHSV-1 and OHSV-1 at the same time, but only had a GHSV-1 outbreak?
I think this is pretty unlikely. My opinion is that if you were infected in both locations, you would’ve had symptoms in both locations but that is only an opinion. When I see people who have HSV one lesions genitally, they most often don’t have lesions orally. I think that especially for women, the labia and the area of the clitoris is very thin tissue and that it can be infected easily whereas the tissue of the lips may be a bit thicker.
2. Can you quantify how likely it is to have an initial OHSV-1 outbreak 7 years after contracting the virus?
I’m sorry but I cannot quantify this. I can only say that HSV-1 certainly prefers the oral area over the genital area and I would expect more outbreaks with an oral infection than I would with a genital one.
3. Is there any testing other than a swab during an outbreak to confirm where the virus lives in your nervous system?
There is not
