Hello Terri,
I got ghsv-1 (anal) while receiving oral ~10 + years ago. I’ve had partners since that it never transferred to. I have a new partner and as I said “I get cold sores” to at least start the convo, they basically told me they do too. I never mentioned the location I had hsv-1 but I’m thinking if they already have ohsv-1 and we are going to have oral, and intercourse (both vaginally and anal) does it matter to mention the location if they could get it in any way?(is this any of their business?) Could they get ghsv-1 from me if they already have ohsv-1? Technically if I had ohsv-1 they could get it to ghsv-1 too, right? I told my GP and they said not to worry about disclosing the location necessarily. I also have OCD so many I’m just obsessing over it but I wanted to ask you since you are a specialist. Thank you so much for your time and answers!
Could they get it genitally? It is possible but so incredibly unlikely! I agree with your doctor, mostly because of new data from Dr. Christine Johnston from UW finding that viral shedding after someone has been infected for 2 years is only about 4 days out of a year. His oral infection is very likely to protect him against your genital infection.
Terri
