I met a woman online and eventually have unprotected sex 3x 19 days ago (No oral, both have HSV1 – she’s had a few cold sore, me none). Prior to this, she last had sex with a guy she dated for a few months a year ago…he cheated and they broke up. She tested clean a week or two later. I tested right before we met and was clean.
Six days ago / 13 days after sex, I noticed throbbing on left side of penis head and discomfort in the center of my head – sensation of something stuck in urethra but nothing actually there. Sometimes felt like a drop of urine came out but no liquid present. Five days ago, the tingling increases on left side of head and now tip. Two days ago, tingling now has minor burning – a constant during the day continuing to next day (yesterday) with increasing intensity throughout the day. Infrequent “urine droplets” remain. Last 48 hours, have noticed an increase in warm sensations all over my thighs and feet. Woke this morning four day trend continues – penis feels ok and then tingling and burning increases throughout day. No sores, redness, discharge, blood, or pain while urinating or ejaculating.
Getting tested but concerned about GHSV2. Yes, the guy she dated could have GHSV2, never showed symptoms, transfers it, she tested too early thus no detection, never has symptoms, and finally sheds virus that one night with me. That chain seems low probability for virus transfer, do you agree or along with my description above and think differently?
Is the nearly six days with tingling / burning with no sores common? When tingling started, I started 500mg of Valtrex daily. Increased to 1000mg two days ago and 1500mg yesterday. Today started with 1000mg. I’ve not noticed a decrease in the discomfort but also not getting worse (no sores). Also, 500mg of Valtrex would stop oral tingles in the past.
Also, if she did give me GHSV2, how long until you can transfer the virus? Is it a split second after I am infected?

Update – just submitted bloodwork and will now hold breath. Also, the burning sensation was very extreme yesterday on the bottom of my feet. Felt like I was standing on hot cement most of the afternoon. Today was basically the fifth day in a row of not really feeling any tingles / burning in the morning and then they return to same spot just left of my tip in the afternoon. Is this pattern with herpes common, assuming I have it?

Terri, it just occurred to me that my antiviral treatment could skew my bloodwork results…if I came back positive for HSV1 (which I know I have) and negative for HSV2, would you have confidence in the HSV2 results or is the detection of HSV1 and HSV2 totally independent of the other?

She did test too soon for accuracy, correct. Transmission can occur during intercourse, however long that takes, yes
Burning on the bottom of your feet would be a very unusual symptom of herpes.
How much antiviral medicine did you take altogether and how long after you had intercourse with her the last time did you take the IgG test?
