I am a female who was diagnosed with genital hsv1 via a positive swab in January. I contracted it after receiving oral from my partner who had open sores in his mouth (his primary outbreak) at the time and didn’t tell me until the next day. My ob was 2 days later. I have not had any further ob’s and didn’t take antivirals at that time or since. I haven’t experienced any prodrome symptoms as far as I’m aware.
I now have a new partner who is negative for hsv1. We use condoms but I have also been thinking of going on suppressive antivirals for at least the next 6/7 months (until I reach the 7% shedding rate) in order to protect him as much as I can. My questions are:
1. Will I still reach the 11 month shedding rate for ghsv1 if I start taking antivirals now or will it hinder me from achieving that rate? and
2. Since my primary outbreak nearly 5 months ago I haven’t had any further ob’s. I am concerned that if I start antivirals now and then stop it will trigger an ob. Do you know if this is likely from your experience?
Thank you

We don’t know that for sure but I would say you will likely achieve a lower level of shedding even taking drugs

No, that’s not how that works.
