Hi Terri. I was diagnosed with ghsv1 2 years ago and I experienced my initial outbreak then. I recently experienced my first recurrence with symptoms and a noticeable sore in my perineal area on 10/24. Took antivirals twice daily for 3 days which cleared it up within a week. I think this outbreak was due to friction during a sexual encounter that I had at the beginning of October. I also had a yeast infection so I’m not sure if that contributed to it too.
I recently had unprotected sex this past weekend, and noticed something strange down there on my vaginal opening. I usually tear during sex which has happened even before I was diagnosed with ghsv. I thought it was an injury due to sex because it was red and slightly bleeding. I went to the gyno today because I wanted to get another swab for yeast to make sure it was all gone, and she noticed the area and said it’s probably another herpes outbreak.
My questions:
If I had just had a recurring outbreak and took antivirals and everything was cleared up, how likely would it for another outbreak to occur right after?
It seems like sex is one of my triggers, but could a recurring outbreak even form that quickly after sex? Whenever I had the recurring outbreak I had noticeable tingling symptoms leading up to it and during the outbreak.
How likely is it to transmit ghsv1 to a negative male partner if this is an active outbreak?

Unlikely but not impossible. And unless your OB did a swab test if the area in question, it isn’t possible to know what this was, honestly.

well, if you are saying you had intercourse with someone while you had an HSV 1 lesion, the risk is certainly present UNLESS this person also has HSV 1, which half the population has. Did you discuss it with them?
Terri
