On December 17 2019 I had unprotected oral sex with a woman I don’t know the status of when it comes to herpes. The encounter consisted of me receiving fellatio and giving unprotected cunnlingus.
32 days after the event I was tested for HSV 1&2 the results were negative. I haven’t had a breakout or any symptoms and I think the encounter was low risk. But here are my test results.
HERPES TYPES 1&2 IGG IGM on 01/18/2019 negative
HSV 1 IGG TYPE SPECIFIC – <0.91 Range: 0.00-0.90 – index
HSV TYPES 1/2 IGM COMBINATION – Less than 0.91 Range: 0.00-0.90 – Ratio
HSV-2 IGG TYPE SPECIFIC – Less than 0.91 Range: 0.00-0.90 – index
Should I test again or should I not be to worried about it?
We recommend that people wait 12 weeks for a final result – 50% of people who are going to be positive are positive by 3 weeks out and at 6 weeks, 70%. So it might be early for you. But if you’ve had no symptoms at all, you may well not be infected at all. The other issue here is that the IgG test for HSV 1 misses 30% of infections – not terribly sensitive. On the other hand, with no symptoms, a single encounter and no known herpes in your partner, I think the chances of you being infected is quite low.
