Hi Terri! Here is my journey to positive HSV type 1.
12/16/2022 Unprotected oral sex and protected Vagianl sex at a party with a girl. (I’m a male and 28)
12/17/2022 I started feeling a burning sensation and tickling around my scrotum. And some pain on the left upper side of my scrotum.
12/18 – 12/19 I had a more intense burning sensation and realized there was a bump where it hurt the most.
12/20 I panicked and did an STD panel blood test at LabCorp in the morning. In the meantime, I had some back pain and also pain when I peed.
12/21 The test result came back (“above high normal >62.20), and I went to see the urgent care immediately. The doctor investigated without a swab, but with my test result and the bump I got. So she prescribed me Valacyclovir for 7 days.
My question is
1. Is the test results accurate, and did I do the testing too early?
2. What does the number >62.20 represent?
3. Did I get it from this girl from the party or before that?
3. I’m super hopeless, and I don’t know what to do!!! Please help. Thanks

By the way the test I did was IgG.

Symptoms update on 12/21 night: I had this chill before going to bed, and my entire body was shaking without my control.

Update on the bump: only one bump and nothing else so far, and it doesn’t hurt when I touch it.

Not all.
2. What does the number >62.20 represent?
This clearly represent an old infection, not a new one. You’ve had this a long time. Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip or in your nose? you could have had this since childhood.3. Did I get it from this girl from the party or before that?
way before
3. I’m super hopeless, and I don’t know what to do!!! Please help.
Half the population in the US ages 14-49 have HSV 1 infection – incredibly common. And we don’t know if it is oral or genital, correct?Terri

Follow up questions
1. My mom said I’ve never had any cold sores or anything since childhood, and I don’t remember if I had any in my adulthood either. Should I do another test after four weeks to confirm which type I got? Or do you think it’s unnecessary since I’ve already tested positive for type 1?
2. I realize that Valacyclovir has many side effects on me such as anxiety, emptiness, and rashes on my body, so should I stop taking it? I’ve been taking 1GM three times a day for 5 days. I just feel too bad taking it.
Thank you! Terri, and hope you are having a great holiday.

By the way, the most obvious bump I got is on my abdomen, and another is on my left thigh, right next to my genital area. I did experience pain and numbness in my penis when I had symptoms. My symptoms are all gone pretty much in 8 days.

There is no need to retest for HSV 1 given your high index value2. I realize that Valacyclovir has many side effects on me such as anxiety, emptiness, and rashes on my body, so should I stop taking it? I’ve been taking 1GM three times a day for 5 days. I just feel too bad taking it.
If you feel badly taking it, stop It’s not like an antibiotic where you need to finish it.
Your symptoms don’t sound consistent with HSV 1 to me.Terri

Yep ! That’s why I thought I got the GHSV 2 type? But then the test showed that it was negative for GHSV2 since I tested four days after I started having symptoms. Did I have the testing too early to know whether or not I have type 2?

yes you did the test too early to detect a new HSV 2 infection, but you said in your heading that you were interesting in your HSV 1 result, I thought.
