Hello Ms. Warren,
Its been a while since I spoke to you and here is a little background information to catch you up:
In October of 2014 an ex boyfriend called and said he had HSV2 and believed that he had contracted it from me. I had never been tested and thought oh crap maybe he had. My first results were:
HSV 1 IGG, EIA <0.90 0.10
HSV 2 IGG, EIA <0.90 0.27
Hsv 1 IgM Negative Negative
HSV 1 TITER REFLEX Not indicated
HSV 2 IGM, QUAL Negative Negative
HSV 2 TITER REFLEX Not indicatedHe later explained that he had slept with another woman a month after our breakup, which was July 2013 and explained that she had tested positive.
From May 2014-Janaury 2015 I was involved with another man on and off, whom took me through hell mentally and emotionally. The first HSV test made me feel a little at ease, but he refused to get tested and after a final blowup, which was violent, I left him alone. Two weeks after our last sexual encounter I developed strange vaginal symptoms and went to an urgent care clinic on February 2. The nurse kept saying she sees a lot of herpes and what she saw was not herpes, no lesions, just a red irritated vagina that was suspicious of Yeast, BV, and possibly chlamydia.
I was screened for Gonorrhea, chlamydia, yeast, and BV. I tested positive for BV and was treated with a flagyl. I went back two weeks later for standard blood tests for HIV, IGM, and Syphilis. Only the Syphilis test came back positive.
The test results were:
Hsv 1 IgM NEGATIVE
HSV 2 IGG,SER,QL NEGATIVE
Treponema pallidum AB, IF REACTIVEI was sent to my regular doctor with Kaiser on March 5 who ran another Herpes test at my begging. I wanted the IgG and the results were:
HSV 1 IGG, EIA <0.90 0.11
HSV 2 IGG, EIA <0.90 0.44
Hsv 1 IgM Negative Negative
HSV 1 TITER REFLEX Not indicated
HSV 2 IGM, QUAL Negative Negative
HSV 2 TITER REFLEX Not indicatedTREPONEMA PALLIDUM ANTIBODY, PARTICLE AGGLUTINATION (ANTIBODY; TREPONEMA PALLIDUM, CONFIRMATORY TEST) (Performed 3/16/2015) negative
She said given my involvement and three negative herpes test, 2 negative HIV test, 2 negative confirmatory tests for Syphilis, its time to move forward and stop. I have had treatment for BV and that is not an STD according to her.
Seeing that I had been intimate with this man from May 2014 until January 2015 am I in the clear. I have not had sex with anyone since January. That man put my in a tail spin that I have battled to with for these past few months. It has involved the police and I am considering leaving the state. He just wont stop with the I LOVE YOU, I MISS YOU, I WOULD NEVER HURT YOU, COME BACK.
I have an annual due in October, mainly because the dr is worried about my iron, vitamin d, and blood pressure. But based on the test results do I need another round of testing?
Thank you

I did want to let you know that all sexual encounters for penile/vaginal sex were protected. I know that statistics that condoms only cut HSV odds by 50%. Oral was unprotected.
The main reason I broke up with him is because of his unwillingness to get tested and his unwillingness to handle his mental illness which made him explosive (PTSD/bipolar).
I just noticed that between the test in November 2014 and the 2nd test in March 2015, the HSV2 numbers seemed to change drastically. Is there a cause for concern?

Hi there,
I was so hoping that by now you had met someone wonderful who would treat with you respect and kindness. Because you and every other woman deserve to be treated with respect and be free of men who would be violent and unpredictable. You know that in your heart of hearts, right? As for your herpes tests: Your last sex was in January and your last test was March? That might have been a bit early. With the screening ELISA I like at least 12 weeks to have passed.
You know you don’t have to go to a healthcare provider for these tests, right? You do if you want insurance to pay for it but if you don’t, you can order these tests online by yourself and the testing is reliable.

Ok, so I did the math and I only got tested at the 5 week mark. When I look back at my symptoms I am starting to think maybe just maybe it is suspicious of Herpes. I have read that an initial outbreak can be misdiagnosed as yeast or BV. Even though the doctor did not see lesions and I did not see lesions, it may have be herpes.
I was told that BV cannot cause sex to be uncomfortable. When I think back, it was not horrible pain, it was more irritating, it felt like an itch trying to be scratched and not wanting to be touched.
I know the Nurse Practitioner kept saying this is not herpes, this discharge is grayish, there are no lesions inside or outside the vagina, maybe she and I missed something. I will go back, I just dont want too. I am so sick of this.
I guess I just wanted to see the odds. If I were diagnosed with BV could that have been confused with Herpes? Is is possible it was just BV?
I mean we had had sex from on and off from May 2014 to January 2015 yes
.
We always used condoms, except for oral sexI was tested for HSV2 while we were sexually intimate in November 2014
Again in January 2015, its the BV diagnosis that scares me into thinking, something else happened. Maybe he gave me Herpes.
I will figure it out or stay celibate forever.

BV and herpes do NOT share symptoms. I think all you need to do know is test again (you are way out now for timing) and it if is negative, just let it be and in the future, you need to consider the option of testing all partners for all STD’s before having sex so you don’t need to worry about this again. Let testing be a red line for having sex.

My apologies if I annoyed you with my questions. I guess I should have asked more directly as ,what would be the odds of a positive test, given the negative result, I received back in January?
I agree I put myself at risk and I will get tested. I am headed to the doctor because I have an irritated red section on the right side if my labia minor and I saw a red small pin sized mark in my vaginal opening but the mark went away over night. Perhaps I irritated my labia by constant checking.
Thank for explaining that BV and herpes do not share symptoms. when I get tested again I will share the results. I am hoping both types are negative.

Don’t be silly – you did not annoy me one little bit! I just so much want the very best for you – you’ve been through a lot, I know.
I think the odds that you will stay negative are about 60% you will and 40% you might not. We know at 6 weeks testing post exposure, we have a 70% chance if the test is negative, it will stay that way. You are at slightly less than 6 weeks right? I’ll bet you are going to be fine. The thing is that having BV MAY make you more susceptible to acquiring other STI’s and we don’t want that so are you being treated for the BV?terri

Good Evening,
Yes I was treated for the BV with flagyl. Originally the NP gave me diflican because I also had an inner ear infection and she prescribed amoxicillin with a order of diflucan to combat the overgrowth of yeast. The diflucan helped ease symptoms. But it did not cure it. The NP called a couple of days later to let me know that it was BV and that knocked it out. I was also given AD ointment for the labia irritation.
I will keep you posted on results. You are awesome.
