Hi Terri, thx in advance for your answer. About 12 weeks ago I had protected sex and received oral (I am male (top), other was male). 3 days later I came down with terrible flu like symptoms, including stiff neck for about 10 days. No lesions. Symptoms improved but had continued fatigue, could have been anxiety as I waited though and waited for HIV results at 45 days via 4th Gen which was neg. Shortly after noticed one bump, possibly two bumps on scrotum that were sore and thought pimple etc and didn’t think much. Showed to a derm 5 days after appearing and after trying to pop for a few days and he said not herpes and gave fucidin. It cleared up within 36 hours. I am still worried that my interference with the bumps allowed for this to be misinterpreted and only took a pic on day 5. Since then, I have had burning in my inner thighs. A week after bumps burning at the tip of penis only after peeing, frequent urination for a few days early in this week, did a urethra swab right away and neg for hsv1 and 2. I have had multiple urine tests and all neg, even mycoplasma, and syphillis and all neg. Tested at 8.5, 10 weeks and will test on Monday for 12 weeks. I have had in addition to persistent thigh burning in both legs (worse wearing tight clothes), achey feeling in back, tingling in back was worse and not so bad anymore, random pains through butt on both sides, leg soreness, fatigue, constant finger and joint pain, headaches, sore throat, waking up feeling tired after a good sleep, headache upon waking, feeling like my head is heavy. More last weekend I felt like I had the flu again with body aches, energy was good. More recently last 3-4 days have felt like my neck gland are swollen and last 2 days fsce feels numb on both sides from my eyes down. I have not seen any blisters or bumps since. Docs are telling me anxiety and it’s somatic but I am in real pain. We don’t get # values here but both results have been non reactive undetectable. Elisa Dorian assay. Thoughts?

To clarify, I am in Canada which is why we don’t get numerical values for the IGG test. All hsv tests (8.5 and 10 weeks) I have had were IGG.
A few other comments. Have had testicle pain on and off during this time and during the week of painful burning after urination it was consistent.
I have been seen by numerous doctors including my family doctor and he has put me on lyrica for 1.5 weeks for the nerve burning which hasn’t really helped.
I have also been on 100mg of doxy for a 1.5 weeks now.
Overall feel just terrible and this thigh pain is really causing me distress. I convinced myself it was anxiety but it’s just to real and I have been trying to go out and live life but I feel like crap. These fully body aches, joint pain etc. in fingers, and feet, leg pain, low back pain, have been driving me nuts and really causing negative thoughts.

So many of your symptoms, like feelings in your fingers, could have nothing to do with genital herpes.
Low back pain is so common for other reasons as well.
A negative IgG at 12 weeks out means with 92% certainty you don’t have HSV 2, as compared to the herpes western blot. maybe you should get the herpes western blot so you can take all of this off your worry list. Your sexual encounter was very safe.Terri

Thank you for the answer, Terri.
I am just achey all over my body especially hands, feet and legs. Today it actually hurts to walk. I also get random bursts of bubbling in my buttocks area like spasm. I also never had any burning in the groin area.
My main concerns are as follows:
1. Burning in thighs. This is constant like I mentioned. Last night I put jeans on and it was very uncomfortable. Could this be post-herpetic neuralgia? I have never had this problem before and I don’t know why it’s showed up over the last 6 weeks.
2. These aches and joint pain. Have you heard of this being a symptom of herpes? Or a reactive arthritis or something triggered by herpes?
3. The last 3/4 days of numbness in my face. I read your thoughts on Bell’s palsy and it seems it’s at odds with other medical research. Would Ghsv2 cause facial numbness? Have you seen this before?
4. If those two bumps were herpes, is it possible that I haven’t had any other visible sores since and that the other symptoms is the virus going to town on my nervous system? I read in your answers that not everyone gets lesions after their initial OB.
5. Yesterday I masturbated a few times and then showered. This morning I noticed some dried up discharge on my boxers snd some under the penis head when I rolled back the foreskin. All of my urine tests have been negative (even did a stool test last week that was negative. Could this be discharge from herpes in the urethra?
6. Have you been able to coordinate westernblot from Canada? I don’t know where I would start.
Thank you.

I seriously do not think so2. These aches and joint pain. Have you heard of this being a symptom of herpes? Or a reactive arthritis or something triggered by herpes?
Not in my experience3. The last 3/4 days of numbness in my face. I read your thoughts on Bell’s palsy and it seems it’s at odds with other medical research. Would Ghsv2 cause facial numbness? Have you seen this before?
Not unless you had HSV 2 orally4. If those two bumps were herpes, is it possible that I haven’t had any other visible sores since and that the other symptoms is the virus going to town on my nervous system? I read in your answers that not everyone gets lesions after their initial OB.
That’s possible also but very unlikely5. Yesterday I masturbated a few times and then showered. This morning I noticed some dried up discharge on my boxers snd some under the penis head when I rolled back the foreskin. No6. Have you been able to coordinate westernblot from Canada? I don’t know where I would start.
DefinitelyYou can set up a video consult with me at westoverheights.com and we can work out the western blot if you would like to do that.
Terri
