Started having unprotected oral and vaginal sex with a new partner. On 01-25-2018. I noticed lesions on my penis and swollen right lymph node in my groin. The lesions were shinny not the typical blisters. I went to the dr on 01-30-18 and was clinical diagnosed with genital. I was giving a 30 day 1g supply of valacyclovir. I took all 30 of the pills stopped for 32 days.I took a igG herpeselect blood and it was negative. That was 9 weeks since the lesions. I read where you needed to be off antivirals for 12 weeks before you can test. I stopped taking the antivirals for 12 weeks and tested negative for both hsv 1 and 2 by igG herpes select blood test. The woman whom i was having sex with tested negative but she tested using iGm. Is it safe to say that wasnt herpes or what? Thank you

Normally, herpes lesions are not shiny but rather water blisters. I’m not sure what might’ve been going on there and I’m wondering if a swab test was done to determine if this was herpes or not. It does not sound like herpes to me but the IgG test misses 30% of a HSV 1 compared to the gold standard herpes Western blot. It would be a good idea for your partner to get an IgG test rather than an I GM test so you can get more clarification.
Sorry for the delay in answering your post. We have been out of town without Internet

I had a swab done but it was 15 days after I noticed the lesions it was negative but I know that was too late to get an accurate reading. Is my second igG herpeselect blood test a good indicator It was exactly at 12 weeks off of antivirals? My biggest concern is that I may have taken so much for so long.

A test completed at 12 weeks post coming off of antiviral therapy should be accurate. The IgG test is not a perfect test but picks up 92% of HSV-2 infection, compared to the gold standard Western blot your description does not sound like herpes either so I would suspect that you are in the clear if you were test at 12 weeks is negative.

I took a hsv 1 and hsv 2 igg herpeselect blood test at 22 weeks after coming of off antivirals. My test were negative.Should I put my herpes concern behind me even though I had lesions and a swollen lymph node in my groin or should i just continue to test?

Yes, I think with a high degree of certainty you can put the herpes issue behind you. You’ve waited long enough to do the IgG test.

Hello, I’m sort of confused. I just read where you said taking antivirals would give you a least accurate test result. I took antivirals for 30 days straight stopped and tested 5 months later. Was my test results not accurate?
