Hello.
I kinda stress about everything. I haven’t had anything that I thought resembled herpes. I did get something on my penis a while back that I thought might be herpes. It was basically a pimple that I squeezed and and it become swollen but didn’t hurt a bit. I tried to pop it and I don’t remember if anything came out. I just remembered it become kinda like scar tissue and swollen. Than I think another time I was wearing some tight spandex while working out and and got another pimple on my penis and I popped it and white fluid only came out. Then it became very swollen and hard. Never hurt. I just figured it was from the the spandex or something.
So, anyways I got tested for everything a while back BEFORE any of this happened just because I stress over everything in life. Hypochondriac, i think. I got tested for everything std wise. HSV2 came back positive. I was shocked because I had never had anything I thought of as herpes. So, I got tested again. And it came back positive. At this point I didn’t know what to do. I let it be. Then I got a herpes confirmation test and it came back negative. So, I was thrilled. I then got stressed and didn’t believe the test because, well, I don’t know I just get stressed. And it came back positive. So, here are the dates, tests, results, etc..
The test/dates/results:
Herpes Elisa antibodies test IgG type specific 11/14/2012 – result: 1.89 (labcorp)
^same test (same location, labcorp) 11/20/2012 – result: 1.65
HSV2 IGG INHIBITION,ELISA (quest labs) 01/2013 – result:
The HSV-2 IgG screening assay was repeated at
Focus Diagnostics, and the result was not positive
(i.e., the index was <1.10); thus, the inhibition
study result could not be determined.
This assay is intended only for samples giving a
positive index in the HerpeSelect HSV-2
type-specific IgG screening ELISA. A POSITIVE
inhibition study interpretation indicates true
HSV-2 specific reactivity, whereas a NEGATIVE
inhibition study interpretation indicates that the
positive screening index was falsely positive.Herpes Elisa antibodies test IgG type specific 04/08/2013 – result: 2.73 (labcorp in a different state, i moved)
Now, I was wondering if I should accept the Negative result and quit worrying? I believe these were all considered low positives Also, I had read that the inhibition is not as reliable as far as giving out false positives but that I can trust the negative result I got from the test. So, Should I be happy and quit worry and accept the negative result?
Honestly, I really just wanna be done with taking tests. I know you really push on the western blot test I just don’t think my anxiety can take it. Also, Im really wondering if the negative result is reliable and confirmation that I don’t have herpes? I know I have read that you don’t like the inhibition because of false positives but I thought since it was negative it was believable?
Thanks so much!

Yes, I think in your situation, the inhibition assay can be relied upon. I rarely see a positive ELISA and a negative inhibition assay, so I’m pleased to see this, both for you and for the validity of the test. Yes, I much prefer the western blot but in your case, I think you are very likely uninfected.

Hi Terri.
Just wanted to make sure you read my whole post. Did you think the “pimple like” things on my penis were of any concern?
Also, what about the 2.73 result? Still a low positive, right? Do you think inhibition still trumps it?
And lastly, the reason I originally posted this was because I had another pimple like thing I noticed the day I originally started this question. 2.5 weeks ago. It’s still there. Basically, I pulled a hair from near it. Then I had squeezed it and this white thick stuff came out. (Similar to when you squeeze a pimple). It never went away. Like 2 days ago it formed/filled again and I squeezed it and more thick white pimple like stuff came out again. And today I squeezed it and just a little more white stuff came out.
Does this sound concerning?
Thanks so much!

Also, I wanted to ask. And I think this is my last question.
When I ordered the test through some online std test website they said having sex within a week before the test would affect the results. I read somewhere that you had said this is not true.
Just want to make sure this doesn’t affect the inhibition results?- This reply was modified 8 years, 7 months ago by jjj342.

The pimple type thing you describe does NOT sound like herpes from your description. Herpes lesions generally have clear fluid inside, not white, and they “refill”. This could be just a pimple or something called molluscum contagiosum. Look at pictures online.
If you had sex a week before the testing and that person happened to have herpes and you got infected, then yes, it could, in that way influence the test. It is best to wait 4 months from the last possible sexual encounter with someone whose herpes status you do not know for certain to be negative.
2.73 is a low positive, but it’s getting up there. If you were my patient, probably even with the negative inhibition assay, I would order the western blot just to be certain when the four month time frame has passed.

Hi Terri.
I spoke with you last Thursday and you ordered me a western blot. I called your office and they said that you only did results on tuesdays and thursdays. I wanted to double check and see if you had received my results yet? Not sure if you have my info through my account or not but I suppose I would ask if you received any results and we could go from there.
Thanks!

The western blot is the most accurate. We will talk tomorrow

Hey Terri.
This is pathetic, but my anxiety is getting the best of me. I think its gonna get me until I actually talk to you on the phone tomorrow.
I really am sorry I keep bugging you. But, could you confirm that the test results are not a mix up with someone else’s name. My initials: BH, birthdate: DEC/1986. I talked to you on Thursday April 23rd. And that you never got the email to work because I never received an email.
Im just so excited about the results but my mind is trying to make up reasons to worry. Please double check and let me know.
Thanks so much Terri!

We will talk tomorrow and you can give me a more accurate email so I can send you your test results and we can clarify that I have the correct person.
