Hello I am a 40 male , was firstly diagnosed genital herpes (HSV2) about 3 months ago. After the first outbreak (which lasts for about 2 weeks) I start to have suppression treatment (Acyclovir 400mg x2 daily) everyday. No new outbreaks so far.
I would like to have 2 questions please:
1. Is it possible to maintain the current treatment lifelong, I mean is it safe enough to keep this treatment for over a very long period of time (any regular organ function check up needed)and will the drug effect diminishes over time?
2. I am living with my wife (with no sexual contacts from day 1). I am so panic that the sharing of toilet would put her at risk of infection, so I clean up clearly every time after I used the toilet. Please advise the actual risk of it and anything I need to do to protect her from infection because of me?
Thanks!

Yes, we have long terms safety data on these medications and no routine blood work is recommended prior to or during the use of suppression.

It is not necessary to clean the toilet every time you use it. That’s not how HSV is transmitted. has your wife been tested to know that she is uninfected? Did you have another partner that WAS infected?
I’m a little confused.
