Hi
I have been tested positive via a IGG blood test for herpes type 1 and 2. Type 1 came back negative ans type 2 came back as positive with a index number of 8.95
My questions are
1) I had an encounter 9.5 weeks previous to this blood test. Is it possible that my positive index number of 8.95 is from this encounter 9 weeks before?
2) What sort of time frame past exposure would you expect to see this number 8.95
1. Yes, that is certainly possible.
2. I would say that this number is possible after about one month to six weeks after infection. That is clearly an estimate but an educated one

Thanks Terri. If I had this infection from a
2 years ago would you expect the antibody index value to be higher then 8.95? If so what sort of number?
Because my encounters was
9 weeks prior to the test
Or
2 years prior to the test. None in between just trying to work out which encounter it came from with a igg antibody index value of 8.95
Sorry Terri on more question. My partner from 2 years ago experienced the following. Do you think this was herpes and a symptom. One day his penis swelled on one side only all the way top to bottom and was tender and then I his groin glands was swollen and tender on one side. Is this herpes? Didn’t have any sores. If I got it from him 2 years ago surely my index number would be higher than 8.95?
With an index value of 8.95, it is impossible to know how long you have been infected or by whom. Depending upon the brand of test used, this may well be a very normal positive value. Different brands of test have different normal ranges. The symptoms that your partner described do not necessarily sound at all like herpes if there were no sores involved
