Hello Terri, I hope you can help set my mind at ease. 8 days ago I went to a massage parlor and during the session I received a handjob but the women also inserted a finger into my butt. I don’t know if she wore any protection, don’t think so, and she used her finger for perhaps one to two minutes until session was over. I think her hands were clean? I felt some discomfort during the fingering. There was no other sexual contact of any kind except for the finger and handjob. The discomfort continued throughout the day with soreness and buring sensation. The next day continued with the same feelings. No particular added discomfort during bowel movements. The day after that the discomforted continued and I started self exam and found a very small tear at the anus opening. As I probed around it began to bleed slightly and I left well enough alone. I don’t know if it was a result of the massage or my probing and I’m sure it wasn’t there prior to massage. Of course as anyone would imagine I was freaking out and worried that through my stupidity I have contracted an STD. I’ve had problems in the past with hemorrhoids so thought that might be part of the soreness and mild burning sensation. I waited and treated area with preparation h but no relief. Yesterday I went to neighborhood Immediate Care Clinic and saw a PA there. I explained fully to her my encounter. She examined me and said there was a “very small tear” and already scabbing over. She didn’t seem concerned about STD and more concerned about cleanliness of hands. Dutifully she urged if future episodes to have person wear latex gloves. She gave me Bacitracin Zinc Ointment and sent me on my way. Maybe I didnt ask her the right question or something. Should I have been tested for STD? I’m still very worried, can’t sleep and can’t stop thinking about this. The pain is still present and forget to ask her when it would clear up. Hope this makes sense and you have some thoughts. Thank you.

There is no reason at all for you to test for STDs because of this encounter.
It sounds like you don’t normally have things in your anus and putting something in there and moving it around can certainly cause tears of the tissue in there. That’s completely normal, given the circumstances.
The likelihood that the person you were with had some kind of STD on her hands is ridiculously low. I think you should stop stop worrying about this now and go back to your normal life. You are OK!Terri

Thank you for your reassurance. Given your reputation, level of knowledge and expertise I will try to put this behind me. On second thought I’ve had enough of that. Thank you.

One more thing – here’s the deal. If you get tested for herpes in the future for some reason and you are positive, I don’t want you to think it came from this encounter, OK? You just DIDN’T!

Got it….thank you. As a matter of full disclosure, about 2 1/2 years ago I had unprotected intercourse with a female co-worked on 3 occasions over a 4 to 5 week period. I became concerned and was tested for STD. I’m not sure but maybe it was Elisa test. Everything came back negative including HSV-1 but positive for HSV-2 with an IGG 1.62. I ceased all sexual activity and after doing a lot of research about false positives on low readings I waited 4 months and had a Western Blot at U of W which came back negative. While I was elated and I have heard it is the “gold standard” of testing I was worried “what if…” and I have continued to refrain from sexual activity with anyone the last two plus years with the exception of 4 maybe 5 visits to a massage parlor. Those visits, except this last time, had no other sexual contact other than a hand job at the end. So how reliable is the Western Blot???? If I ever had a Elisa test again, I would assume it would still read low-positive for HSV-2?
Thank you

The western blot is very reliable. It is likely that if you have the HSV ELISA, you will again be positive at a low level for HSV 2.
