Hi Terri, I recently got tested for HSV1 and HSV2. My result for HSV2 came out negative (<0.2). However the results for HSV1 was high (7.11). Does it mean that I have had the virus in me for long? Or the number value is irrelevant? I have been dating a guy since 9-10 months, and am curious if I could get the infection from him. I never experienced any cold sores ever. And I’ve never had oral sex. And as far as I know, people I’ve kissed hadn’t had oral sex with anyone too. What are the chances of getting the virus by sharing a lip stick or drinks with anyone? Are there chances of the test result being a false positive. The test that I took was igg type specific ab. How can I take the western blot test, as i’d like to reconfirm. I tried to google it, but couldn’t find a way to send the specimen. I’m from Indian origin and haven’t been in the US very long.
Also, Does positive HSV1 result without any symptoms can lead to genital herpes in any way?
There is no way to know how long you have been infected within index value of 7.11. Since you have been dating this person for quite a while, it is possible that you could have acquired it from him and have that index value it is extremely unlikely that you acquire this infection from a lipstick or sharing a drink. We cannot know if your infection is oral or genital since you have not had a lesion in either location but if you have never participated in oral sex, genital infection is highly unlikely. I can help you obtaining herpes Western blot if you would like to do that though I am pretty certain and will confirm as positive for type I. If you want me to help you, you can schedule a videoconference with me to arrange this test by going to the home page of this website and clicking on the video conference button.
