Hi MS. Terri,
I had sex 11 days ago. Protected vaginal sex and unprotected oral sex. Me male she female. She has no symptoms of oral herpes but I am unaware if she has them or not. Question: this was only one time, how likely would it be that if she does that I could actually get infected. I have tested in the past and have been negative for both.
The girl I had sex with last Friday is younger and a coworker.
and has only had 3 partners including me. She has only had sex with a condom and once with her first partner anal sex without a condom. She has never had an std test.
I did receive unprotected oral sex and she has had no visible sores and said she hasn’t had in all her life cold sores.
If no clinical symptoms for herpes show up in two weeks. Would you suggest I can have unprotected sex with my regular Partner ?
Also, she had no blisters or symptoms in the vaginal area. The condom didn’t cover all the way to the base because of my size but tried constantly to roll it down.
Overall, how risky is this for herpes? Thank you for your help -

I think your risk in this situation is very low, especially since she reports no history of cold sores. And condoms reduce transmission of HSV from women to men by about 65% so even if she had it genitally, the risk was also low for you.
If you haven’t had any symptoms in 2 weeks, I think it would be quite safe to have sex with your regular partner. This isn’t a promise obviously, just an educated guess.

Hi Terri,
Greetings from Barcelona. Thank you so much for your input. I still haven’t had any symptoms and it’s been 16 days so far after contact. I haven’t had anything yet. Taking into consideration this one time encounter and the condom used and her history. Your guess is that I likely didn’t get infected ?
Thank you so much and hope everything is well.

Yes, I think it is likely that you were not infected.

Hi Terri,
This is my final question so I will ask it for general info when that’s ok.
So it’s been day 29 and I think what I got was an ingrown probably about two inches above the base of the penis and it’s only one so I doubt it’s a herpes outbreak. Anyways I wanted to ask.1. What are the main differences between angular chelitis and oral hsv 1?
2. My regular partner has never been tested for stds but we are more than 4 years together and I am
Ok with it, could an std lie dormant ?
3. If I was to start a new relationship, condoms for vaginal sex and if no symptoms oral without is fine ?
4. I’ve seen stories of people passing herpes but in your profesional opinion, how contagious is really herpes ?
5. Finally, do you agree that circumcising reduces the risk of hsv?
Thank you for this great forum and all your help! -

Angular chelitis is not cause by herpes. it appears only in the corner of the mouth and normally is not as severe as a cold sore outbreak.2. My regular partner has never been tested for stds but we are more than 4 years together and I am

Yes4. I’ve seen stories of people passing herpes but in your profesional opinion, how contagious is really herpes ?
It is certainly contagious, but HSV 1 genitally far less than HSV 2.5. Finally, do you agree that circumcising reduces the risk of hsv?
I do believe that is true, certainly for HIV, but I would have to do a literature review to confirm that, at some point.Terri
