Hi there. I had unprotected oral sex with a new partner on Wednesday night. Thursday morning I woke up feeling like I had a sore, figured I got knicked with a fingernail or something, no big deal happens all the time. Saturday night was feeling worse and checked out what was going on down there and saw this! (close up with no clothing picture!) The picture is me spreading it out but if I just had it normal, it looked like a deep laceration. Immediately freaked out but wasn’t too worried until Sunday night when I noticed my lymph nodes were swollen. I’ve had abscesses before and the swollen lymph node thing and thought maybe I had a cut that got infected but given the location, that seems like just wishful thinking. I’ve already been to the doctor, gotten swabbed, and waiting for my test results but my doctor is on vacation until the LAST WEEK OF JUNE and I just need an opinion from someone before then (even if its just an internet one!) Following pictures are from about four days later, two days after the doctor prescribed me antivirals while we waited for test results. I know it presents differently on anyone but the wound is just SO DEEP and doesn’t look like any pictures of sores I’ve ever seen before! It’s also discharging a yellowish goo pretty constantly. Any thought or opinions appreciated!

OUCH! This looks painful. And it also looks like it could be herpes, yes. What testing was done on this lesion? Swab test, blood antibody test? And are you saying that you can’t get results until your doctor comes back? There is no one else in the office to give you these test results? Now, the test results are your property and you have an absolute right to them. Technically the laboratory must also release results to patients now. Most labs have put into place provisions for this.

Have you ever before had a blood antibody test for herpes? Have you talked to your most recent partner to see if they have ever in their life had a cold sore on their lip? Not just when they were giving you oral sex but ever in their whole life.

Luckily enough, it’s not actually that painful (I think the location and the deepness protects the exposed sore from being touched or rubber, I barely notice it at all!) The nurse took a swab test and though I’ve been calling to try and get my test results, they keep telling me “no one is answering” and to call back but won’t take a message either. Very frustrating.
I’ve never had a blood antibody for herpes and don’t really have access to the “most recent partner” to ask about his history of cold sores or outbreaks (one time deal sort of thing).
I guess I will just have to wait for the results but kind of resigning myself to the fact that it is herpes. Oh well. Thank you for taking the time!

I am wondering, however, how long I can expect it to take to heal? It’s been almost a week, five days on antivirals, and it’s still weeping and very much an open wound.
And also, if this is my first outbreak and there is only this one sore, is it likely that future outbreaks will also be this mild (though I know it doesn’t look mild being a giant crater in my hooha)

If it is herpes it could be around for another week or two before resolving. did they so a syphilis test? Given the lack of pain, I would suggest that you be certain that testing was done as well.
