Hello,
I’m really worried and confused about herpes. About 1 month ago I was diagnosed with HSV 1 by a IgG specific blood test, at the same time I was having my first oral outbreak, I had neck swollen Lymph nodes and a sore throat. My boyfriend kissed me while I was having the outbreak, so I think I might infected him. A week from that, we had intercourse where he used his saliva to lubricate his genitals and then proceeded to penetrate me, he didn’t had any cold sores or symptoms of an initial outbreak, three days from that I started to feel a burning sensation in my lower left back that migrated to the hips and groin, that lasted for a week and then went away after the burning went away I started to feel a little sick like I was getting the flu but I never actually got it and I never developed any blisters or had any swollen lymph nodes in the groin, it’s been already 2 weeks from this sexual encounter happened, so my questions are 1. Can I get HSV 1 from saliva? 2. Am I resistant to getting HSV 1 or do I have to wait at least a year to build antibodies? 3. How can I know if I have HSV 1 genitally if no sores are present?
I apologize if my English is not perfect
Thank you! -

If your HSV 1 IgG was positive when you were experiencing your first recognized outbreak of oral HSV 1, then this is NOT a new infection for you. You would NOT have a positive IgG until you had been infected for a while. Remember that the IgG test is for antibody, and antibody is not something that you get from someone else, it is something that you build after infection and that takes a while. Since you have established HSV 1 infection already (if you are interpreting your test results correctly), then you would be essentially immune from genital infection.
Am I reading this situation correctly?

Thank you Terri for your answer, but I read in some websites that in some cases when there’s a primary infection of oral HSV 1, it’s possible to be vulnerable to contract it genitally or autoinoculation, is that true?
And I’ve been experiencing some irritation on the vaginal area but still no blister, do you think it’s herpes or just an irritation because I’ve been examining my genitalaa day and night looking for blisters? 🙁 -

In 33 years of practice, I have seen one case of someone who reported a childhood history of cold sores and had a genital lesion that tested positive for HSV 1. Once. And I did wonder about the accuracy of the report of childhood cold sores. I think you should take this off your worry list.
