Hello Terri,
I have an issue that is unrelated to my previous inquiries. It is now 6 weeks after receiving unprotected oral sex. The bumps I previously asked about never went away after a month, nor have they ever changed. A dermatoligist told me they were nothing to worry about.
My main point of concern is a burning sensation I feel in my penis, along with very subtle irritation in the urethra.A week after my encounter, I noticed the burning and went to an urgent care facility, where i was prescribed azythromycin and suprax. The burning went away for a few days, but eventually came back. A week after my urgent care visit, I called the urgent care doctor to tell him my burning has returned and he prescribed ciprofloxacin (500mg twice a day for 7 days) on suspicion of a uti. This was on the fourteenth of april. I took the medicine for 4 days consistently, missed two days, then finished up the course for the last three days. I felt the burning sensation subside for a few days, but it once again came back. It also felt kinda irritating in the urethra, and I was constantly rubbing the spots kinda agressively. I eventually went to a urologist last thursday. He found blood in my urine ( my urine was noticeably darker after rubbing agressively) . he was convinced that I dont have herpes. I told him about my previous antibiotics and he decided to give me two weeks of ciprofloxacin (500 mg twice a day). it is now a week into my antibiotics. The burning is less severe and so is the irritation, but occasionally I still feel it, very subtly. But it is definetely still there. this makes 6 weeks since my encounter. i should note that I have absolutely NO pain when urinating, even when blood was found in my urine. I also regularly check myself, and have found absolutely no sign of external lesions on my penis. Do you think this might be herpes? I could really use your advice… I’ve been really anxious about this.

I should note that along with the irritation in the urethra is a slight feeling of itchiness.

I do not think for a moment that this herpes, no. Herpetic urethritis would not last like this and improve with antibiotics. I am concerned about the blood in your urine for other reasons and I surely do hope that you are going to follow up with the urologist after this course of medication. Continual blood in the urine is quite concerning.

Hi Terri,
Thank you for your response. For reference, what kind of symptoms would i have to look out for if it was herpetic urethritis? I assume it would be painful to urinate…

Yes, painful urination DURING urination, not after. And it would last 3-10 days, at the most
