I was recently tested and received an hsv1 score in the low 40s and hsv 2 of 1.84. I was tested around a year ago and had a low positive hsv1 and negative hsv2. Is this a likely false positive? Can very high hsv1 influence or dribble down to affect the hsv2? I have never had an outbreak of any sort. If i do have genital herpes how likely is it that I could have given it to my new girlfriend whom I have only had oral sex with? Also how common are side effects during pregnancy for women who have already been infected, are the babies usually unaffected? Should I worry about infecting family members via bath towels and toilet seats?

There is about a 55% chance that this is a false positive. Statistically, we have not found that HSV 1 positivity makes it more or less likely that the HSV 2 will be a false positive. You clearly need a herpes western bot to sort this out for you. May I ask when your last sexual contact was with someone whose herpes status you did not actually know?
HSV 2 is unlikely to be passed through receiving oral sex but it is possible. Most babies born to moms who have a well established herpes infection do NOT get herpes from their mom, especially when the mom knows she has herpes and is able to take antiviral therapy at the end of pregnancy. No, I would not worry about toilet seats. I do recommend that people use their own towel, for lots of reasons.
But before you get too worried about this, you should get the western blot. There is a better chance than not that you are not infected. Our clinic can arrange that for you to be drawn in a Quest lab near you. This cannot be ordered by your regular health care provider.

Thank you for the response, the last sexual encounter I had prior to my current gf would have been au or September of last year. My current gf tested negative in February for hsv 2. February 2014 was when I was tested last. I may have had a cold sore on my lip at the time of testing, could that have thrown the results off as well?im scheduled to have a consultation with someone at your office on Tuesday. Are there any other diseases or infections that can cause a false positive? What percentage of babies born to moms with previously known infections have complications?

A cold sore on your lip at the time would not have impacted the testing at all.
We are not aware of other diseases or infection that would cause a false positive, no.
About 0.3%
I think your consultation is with me, only I do the phone consultations.Terri

What are the chances of passing on the HSV2 if infected to others through kissing. A peck on the cheek, lips, forehead, making out with someone.

Extremely low. If you happen to be infected orally with HSV 2 (which is not common), it doesn’t like the mouth area and when living there, rarely sheds. I think you are good with kissing.
This is your final post on this thread. I sincerely hope you will pursue a western blot to get clear about your situation.
