Last year I was tested for HSV 1 and 2 IGG type specific. Both came out positive.
Hsv1 52.20 ( which I knew always had serious issues with mouth cold sores all my life )
Hsv2 13.30I was attempting to settle in with the idea that I had both. However , my recent partners tested negative for both ( they did igg). It had been a long while that our last sexual encounter when they got tested (over months). One of my partners I was with for many years and had un protected because I didn’t know I had it. I have not had nor do I have any symptoms. There is one partner I didn’t not ask because that was over 10 years ago. I recently went to my doc and she stated it could be a false positive. They did retest this year not blot and both were positive they just never gave me the range yet. I didn’t think this could be possible because all the readin I have done over false postive is for folks that hsv 2 range under three.
Is it possible that it could be a false positive due to reactivity with my hsv 1 ? If so is it worth it to do the western blot test ?
Silly question if I do have positive results can a person get bikini wax at a place where someone else does it? This last year has been difficult and I’m trying my best to not put anyone in harms way.

I feel quite strongly that this would confirm by the blot but a person in Seattle last year tested with an IgG of 14 and did NOT confirm with the blot so it’s anyone guess, I suppose.
If you are HSV 2 infected, you can definitely get a bikini wax from someone else, yes, no risk of transmission there.Terri

Thanks for the response on my second question. Can I get a bit clarity on is it possible to score so high on igg HSV2 and it be a false positive ? Have you seen any cases where they test high ( over a score of 4) on igg but come out negative on blot? And does having such a high hsv1 score impact the possibility of Having a false positive for HSV2 ?

oh yes, I have recently seen someone with a 9.6 on their IgG test that did not confirm by western blot. We don’t know why people have these high HSV 2 false positives but it is likely due to people having a protein with the same molecular weight as one of the HSV antibody proteins but it is not due to herpes.
Having a positive HSV 1 could have some impact on your HSV 2 index value yes, but not this much.Terri
