Hello, I had an encounter with a woman that I paid for. I wore a condom but as it was my first time I don’t really remember how it went since I was lost in the moment. It was a dark so I couldn’t see if she had sores or not. I never even entered her (performance anxiety). If I remember she may have put her genitals on my pubic area. I did touch her genitals but no oral from me. She did try to give me oral with a condom on but again I was lost in the moment and I don’t even remember when she put it on.
After the encounter I took of the condom and didn’t wash my hands and may have touched my mouth area.
The next day I felt so much fatigue and headache that I got nauseous. This isn’t normal because at the time I worked a 10hr shift job lifting heavy sheet metal weighing 30-80 pound alot for 4-5 days a week. I was more tired after this encounter than after work.
Anyways the following Monday (work day) I had to call in because of how bad I felt. I’ve never called in sick unless I really was. I went to the hospital and got tests done on everything but hsv. All negative. I did see a sore inside my mouth at the time develop (or was it always there?). I saw little bumps on the corners of my mouth (Fordyce spots) that I don’t remember ever being there or maybe I just noticed them at the time.
Anyway I got a swap test (don’t know if culture or pcr) that tested negative. I did some online research and found those tests aren’t as reliable (read your book and pcr is. Now I know). Not convinced I got a blood test not sure which one but the igG number was 56 or 58 I can’t remember. I think they said hsv1 but again I don’t remember. Need to ask for a copy of my results.
Additional info: that woman I had an interaction with was the first woman I had a “sexual” encounter with ever in my life. I’ve never had cold sores ever before or since the interaction. I had something show up in my genitals before but I had no sex before so I forgot what that was. Where can I test for both? -

While the culture is not as sensitive as the PCR swab, it is still useful. Nothing you’ve described about your encounter concerns me that you’ve acquired HSV. Your high index value, likely for HSV 1, indicates you’ve been infected for a long time – probably orally since you’ve never received oral sex.
You could do an IGG for both but the best test is the western blot. But honestly, I don’t see a reason to do either AND there are false positives on the IGG that should be a concern. I think you don’t have genital herpes, if that’s what you are thinkingTerri

I never kissed the woman in question either. Hell I’ve never kissed any woman ever. Like I said this woman gave me oral sex but I was covered with a condom. I had chicken pox as a kid. Is it likely that my parents or a relative gave it to me?
I remember as a teenager I drank beer and smoked joints with many other teens passing around the bottles and joints. Is it possible I can catch it like that? Should I just take the Elisa? I want to see what my new numbers are at. -

Is quest diagnostic a good place to test?

You could certainly test at Quest, yes. But the thing you could get from oral sex is HSV 1, not HSV 2, and you already have a high HSV 1 index value, likely because you were infected as a child – perhaps an adult kissing you with a cold sore. Why would you be asking about getting tested at Quest?

Ok tell me if I need to pay more for other questions but I think I have one more question.
I know I don’t have genital hsv. What does oral hsv2 look like? Your answer about you can get hsv1 from oral sex but not hsv2 confused me.
I’m new to testing. I used quest. My first hsv test from the doctor was from lab corp. I’m waiting on the quest results. Also what does genital hsv1 look like? Thanks. -

HSV 2 is rarely oral and when it is oral, it is very rarely shed nor does it recur very often at all. HSV 1 orally definitely does both.
HSV 2 orally looks just like a cold sore.
HSV 1 genitally looks like water blisters on a red base or ulcerationsTerri

Ok I just paid for more questions. I got my lab results from quest and my hsv1 igg number is 58 again. The first time throu labcorp about 1 year or more ago was damn near the same. I took acyclovir. Again I’ve never had a break out ever. Why was the number so high and the exact same as my old test from a year ago?

It is very clear that at some point in your childhood you acquired HSV one orally from an adult kissing you with a cold sore. That is why the number is substantial and it merely indicates that you have mounted a successful immune response to HSV one. Many people who test positive for HSV one do not report cold sores or sores inside the nose which is a common place for recurrence. Taking acyclovir is probably not necessary at this time if you’re not symptomatic.
