Hi, I recently had gotten oral sex from what I thought was a woman… but turned out to be a transexual male after I undressed him. Needless to say I broke off contact that second and never saw him again! I have not had sex since then.
In a panicked fury one week after the encounter, I did the 7 STD Panel Test from Quest Diagnostics, both urine and blood. I also did a Herpes HSV 1 & 2 test for good measure that same appointment.
What came back was a negative result on the entire 7 STD Panel and Herpes HSV 1 Test. To To my shock however, I scored an Equivocal 0.95 Index reading on the Herpes HSV 2 and have been beside myself ever since. Had I fully known who this person was, I would have never gotten oral sex in the first place!
Quest told me to do a follow up test for HSV 2 in 4-6 weeks. But I’ve done some research in the meantime finding out that there could be a silver lining as people who have tested positive from the same IgG test have tested negative on the much more accurate Western Blot test. This is how I found you Terri!
So I have two big questions:
1. What is the likelyhood I have Herpes 2 or another STD?
2. What confirmatory testing should I pursue from here?
To cover my bases I do have the following caveats:
I. I took all tests one week after this encounter. The encounter itself was early morning on April 29th. It has since been roughly two weeks.
II. I did go briefly beyond oral sex by giving this transsexual a quick peck on the cheek and have them rub my penis in between their butt cheeks briefly (thinking they were female.)
III. For the first few days I had the following symptoms:
A. A slight headache
B. Slight and very mild tingling irritation outside of the penis and in the urethra.
C. Very slight pain each time I went pee.
After a few days, only the slight headache remains.
What should I do?

1. What is the likelihood I have Herpes 2 or another STD?
People who acquire herpes from receiving oral sex get HSV 1, not HSV 2, so I don’t believe that the equivocal HSV 2 has anything to do with this encounter whatsoever.2. What confirmatory testing should I pursue from here?
Well, if you want to know if you have HSV 2 (and I doubt that you do), you can do the western blot. I don’t think you need the blot – I’ve only seen two people who have had equivocal IgG tests for HSV 2 go on to confirm as positive on the western blot.I don’t think the other contact you had with this person presents any risk either.

Hi Terri,
I greatly appreciate your response. I am feeling much better since this encounter as even my headache mentioned above has completely gone away.
After talking with others close to me I do want to get a Western Blot test ordered to be on the safe side. The earliest date I can have it scheduled is June 10th, putting it exactly 6 weeks after the horrific encounter.
My questions now are:
1. Can I order a Western Blot test through you or a third party affiliated with you?
2. How much is its price out of pocket including shipping?
3. I live in Chicagoland, is there a lab in the Chicago or Rockford Illinois area that can send my blood to the Uni. of Washington for evaluation?
I really do appreciate you helping me on this matter so far Terri. Your insights have put me at great ease!

You can order the western blot through me or you can ask your regular clinician if you can do it through them. Both work2. How much is its price out of pocket including shipping?
I don’t know the cost of shipping because I don’t know where you are. The test and consult with me is $325, blood draws are $25-50, and shipping depends on how your ship and where you are3. Yes, in Villa Park. It is an anylabtestnow. WE use them all the time for blood drawsI really do appreciate you helping me on this matter so far Terri. Your insights have put me at great ease!

I have deleted your email address – not a good idea. To begin the blot with me, simply go to the home page of this website and follow the link to “get a western blot”
