25 years ago at age 27 I was dx with celiac disease through a rash that appeared like hsv, so they said was routine to culture for both. I have never had any hsv symtoms, only 5 partners by that time ( I know that doesn’t matter)and only one unprotected encounter. Even used condom with my husband for birth control. Hsv2 came back dormant positive on mons pubis. So many years later, single, have not had sex in 10 years, would like to do western blot to be sure there was no error with the test 25 years ago because I have never, ever, had so much of a tingle down there. I’m starting to date and if I don’t have to give the talk, would be great. Just feel I want to confirm. Could there be any chance getting tested through Western Blot is worth it?
Also, was told condom is enough since I have always been asymptomatic, no need to expose my liver long term to valtrex every single day. If my results are positive 🙁

Hi Terry, I know you haven’t written back yet but there was additional information regarding the way the tissue was collected, it was sliced with a razor as the doctor was slicing off pieces of tissue from my elbows and my knees and my moms pubis where this rash was. No blister, no liquid, I feel like I’m just looking for any possibility because of the unusual presentation that there may have been Human error or something else that could justify doing another test to confirm whether I GG or western blot. Thanks so much.

I’m a little confused – you were diagnosed from essentially a shave biopsy?
Yes, you could certainly obtain a western blot to be sure that you have herpes and also what type.
Condoms will reduce transmission by about 50%.
Whoever told you Valtex hurts your lives is mistaken.

Sorry I didn’t see your answer. Yes, I guess you would call it a shave biopsy. One razor took dry samples from several areas. I jus had Igg type specific run through quest and stdcheck and hsv 1 and 2 came back below .9- negative result. Planned Parenthood suggested I confirm the result I was given years ago but couldn’t test me w/o symptoms. Can I trust the IGg? Thanks!

I’ve not heard of someone being diagnosed with shave biopsy. I guess my recommendation stands – obtain a western blot for greatest certainty. Planned Parenthood must not be including the blot in their thinking OR they don’t gather and send it. You can Google herpes western blot online for more information. Do you have recurrences?

I’ve never had a single break out of any kind, not an initial one, nothing ever in the 25 years since I was diagnosed from that shave biopsy which was for a celiac s
Rash. Do you think I can trust the IgG from Stdcheck/quest? Planned Parenthood said with no symptoms they don’t test.

I’m honestly not clear about what to think here. The method of gathering a specimen is unusual for sure. If I had a patient who has a positive culture and negative IgG years later, I would order them a western blot – no question.
