Hello!
I recently tested in November 2022 and tested positive for both HSV1 and HSV2. The test performed was the HSV 1 and 2-Spec Ab, IgG w/Rfx with a supplemental test with LabCorp. The results are as follows:
HSV1: 57.40
HSV2: 1.22
Supplemental test: positiveI have had cold sores in the past but nothing in years. I have never had any symptoms of HSV2 at all. I did also test positive for BV and yeast as well. I have also heard that having shingles and/or COVID previously could affect the results. I have had both.
My results came back in December. My doctors office called and told me about the BV but never mentioned the HSV. I only found out today when I happened to look in my chart online. I immediately called my doctor and they told me I was positive and they have never heard of false positives. Said they would be willing to give me antiviral medication to help prevent any outbreaks but did not recommend testing again.
My past sexual history:
I was married and didn’t use condoms until 2021. I’m not sure of my ex’s history as it was a tumultuous relationship and he refuses to test.
In 2022, I began dating someone for 3 months and one time we didn’t use a condom. My lack of self esteem played heavily.
I then started dating another person and we had unprotected sex 2-3 times in 8 months.
Then in October 2023, I had a one night stand and apparently he didn’t use a condom (poor judgement and lots of alcohol).I have not asked previous partners yet. I was tested in 2015 when I was pregnant and everything was negative.
Is it possible to have a false positive? Should I take another blood test? I am so horrified by these results and feel like my love life is over. I’ve had a very rocky past with my ex and now I’m just devastated.
Any insure would be appreciated. Thank you.

Update to history:
* Still unsure about ex husbands history.
* 3 months dating tested negative and so did his girlfriend
* 8 months dating tested negative and states he tests regularly.
* I asked the one night stand but no response yet. -

With an index value that low for HSV 2, there is an 85% chance that this is a false positive. You definitely need a herpes western blot to confirm this. We now have over 120 people with positive IgG tests and positive supplemental from LabCorp who are negative by western blot
