If more than a billion people have this virus worldwide how is it that there’s still a large number of people who still haven’t caught this virus? I mean intercontinental travel is easily accessible and relatively cheap, so even areas with low number of those infected are much more at risk. Additionally, based on what I read, this virus sheds even without symptoms so it must spread like wildfire.
The stigma attached to herpes is something that confuses me. So many people have it. Even as someone who has oral HSV-1, I still get scared about catching HSV-2 and try to take precaution when I see someone with an oral flare up – even though I have oral HSV.
It used to be that oral HSV 1 had no stigma – cold sores were common and nothing to worry about. Now that some HSV 1 is causing genital infections, cold sores are now stigmatized. It’s all about the fact that HSV 2 is an STI and we as a society see this differently from other diseases as we are a puritanical society
