Dear Terri,
I have been really struggling and miserable a few weeks ago since I started to read about STDs and HSVs.
I met a wonderful guy a year ago and plan to get married. I did my STD screening panel recently and it came back negative. However I was aware that I had HPV from pep test and I was looking for cure and in that process i started to notice about herpes.
I had core sores from long time ago I don’t remember when. I’ve never connected it with a STD. I got panic when I realized I had HSV1 because of core sores, and I went to do the Igg test by Quest. The results came back as below:
HSV1 positive >5 H
HSV2 positive 1.18HI am not surprised about HSV1, because I had a breakout when I went to do the rest. However I never had any symptom like sores in genital area. I was devastated. I didn’t use condom with my ex husbanbut he was cheated when we were still in marriage. After divorce ended my first long relationship, I was lost and I made stupid mistakes and had 2/3 times of unprotected sex, though not all full intercourse there were skin to skin intimacy moments.
I met my fiancĂ© last year and we are about to get married. However this result made me feel absolutely regretful, ashamed and painful. I told him about it after I discovered this and he was understanding and supportive. I read a lot of posts online and noticed that the low positive like mine for HSV2 is likely to be false. I want to get your opinion how likely it is false? And how likely did I pass to him after 8 months being together with him – we had sex once a twice a week since we haven’t lived together?
Last two weeks I went to a clinic in China that claims to be able to cure HPV and HSV.
They’ve also done HSV1 Igg and Igm and HSV2 Igg and Igm test before any virus treatment and came back with a different results:
HSV1 Igg: positive; Igm: positive
HSV2 Igg: negative; Igm: negativeThey can also measure the quantity by some DNA test. After some treatment the quantity has reduced from:
The test regard <2500 as the normal.
HSV1 78000 -> 3700
HSV2 310 -> 0.7Given this result, how do you think of my HSV2 status? Do you think I have it? And shall I do a western blot now to get an accurate result? Also after I was treated for the HPV with some medication, do you think the accuracy from Western Blot will be impacted now? I live in jersey city. Can u order it for me in one of the jersey quest lab? How shall I do it?
Thank you so so much.

We can definitely order you a western blot, of course! Call our office on Monday and set up a consultation with me on Tuesday and we’ll get it ordered right away. There is an 85% chance it is a false positive Nothing you did in China would impact this test so no worries.
