Hello,
I had an unprotected sexual encounter on 12/9/22. I performed oral, and there was vaginal and anal penetration. Two days after I had swollen tonsils and some burning with urination. I got STI testing on 12/15/22 except hsv. All came back negative. I had constant burning from the 15th through the 19th that eventually went away. I got a hsv2 igg type specific test through Labcorp on 12/22/22 the results were 11.60 index high. I would like to know have I had this for a while or could this high of a result come from the encounter on the 9th. And if so could I expect outbreaks orally, anally and vaginally since all those parts came into contact.

If it is an accurate positive, you’ve had it longer than 6 days, for sure.

What would make it an inaccurate positive?the hsv2 lab was drawn 2 weeks after what I believe is my exposure date. Not sure if this would impact the antibodies building up but my body tends to heal very quickly and I believe I was actively having an outbreak due to the spots on my cervix as well as burning and red lesions on my vulva. The reason I’m having a hard time believing that this is an old infection is because I have never noticed any sign or symptoms of having hsv but within a few days of this encounter I was having very noticeable symptoms( the swollen tonsils, constant burning in vulva and then red spots once it stopped, now I have what seem to be gashes as well in my vulva) and from what I’ve seen it’s unlikely a recurrent outbreak would be worse than the initial outbreak. There was a lot of sexual activity that night with 4 men and I was wondering could the number of times in such a short time I had sex with the affected individual/s impact how much I was exposed.

Some people have false positives on their IgG tests – that’s why I made the comment about an accurate positive. Your test was actually done 13 days after the encounter – the other testing done 6 days later. I still don’t believe that your index value would be 11.6 in 13 days.
How do you know that you had spots on your cervix? Was an exam done, (and how else would your cervix be evaluated) and if yes, then what did the clinician who did your exam think?
I am standing by my opinion that this is not a new infection 13 days old.

I looked myself, I purchased a speculum I know that’s extreme but I just felt like something was off so I had to have a look. I have an actual exam tomorrow and I’m going to see if they can swab what I saw if it’s still there and the marks I think are herpes sores. everything just lined up with herpes from what I’ve read on this forum and online with the exception of the blistering sores after my last encounter and then the igg came back so high so I figured it must be right because as I stated before I’ve never had even the slightest symptoms of herpes prior. once I went in and they told me I was positive all they asked was if I wanted to treat and I said yes so he gave me acyclovir and left it at that. I took it yesterday but I’m not going to take it today or tomorrow so the swab can be accurate if this is herpes. I may have jumped the gun but once I saw those results I notified all parties involved so they could be tested and I could find out if any of them test positive if they actually test and are willing to tell me. I’m hoping this is a false positive and not on old infection. I think at this point all I can do is wait to see if the swab is positive for a confirmation. Thank you for your insight Ms. Warren

If the swab is negative, remember that is not definitive. Virus comes and goes, antibody especially with western blot is consistently present.
