› Forums › Herpes Questions › How reliable are the PCR swabs with mild Urination burning and no sores?
6 months ago after an unprotected encounter, I had some symptoms (very red and sore urethra, yellow/green discharge, mild burning urination and testicle aching)
When I first got symptoms, I went to an sti clinic. Doctors looked and said it didn’t look like herpes. So They swabbed it for bacteria infections and said it “looked” a lot like gonnorrhea under the microscope. They gave me treatment.
After a few days discharge stopped but I still had painful urination so I went back to retest. My urine samples came back negative for gonn, clhymydia and MG. Eventually the mild burning symptoms disappeared after 5 weeks since I first noticed it only to reappear a few weeks later.
Since then I’ve been having the same recurrent mild burning with urination and after urination every 6-8 weeks for the past 6 months. They don’t last as long as 5 weeks (usually 2+ weeks) and accompanied by a slightly red urethra but no sores.
As the issue has been reoccurring. I asked for a PCR swab for herpes. I had this done on two separate occasions. one in November and one in February. These both have come back negative. Instead they keep finding again what “looks” like gonnoreah under the microscope. But my urine comes back negative. Bare in mind I’ve been using protection since.
However both times I was swabbed it was coming to the end of my symptoms – my mild burning urination was still there, but getting better on both occasions. With the first swab I did have more pronounced red irritation though which they swabbed, but it was at least two weeks after my symptoms first appeared.
How accurate are these PCR swab tests if they are tested towards the end of an outbreak? If I still have some mild symptoms will the test pick it up?
Doctors refuse to give me blood test as they said if I test positive, they can’t say if it’s causing my genital issues or not, as most people have the virus.
Please also note they found high calcium for my age which is being expelled through urine.
