Hi Terri,

I want you to start off by deeply thanking you for everything you do involving herpes education. Im 28. I recently did a full std panel. My results showed a LGG blood test of 59. I have had one cold sore in my life which I know means I have oral herpes. I also know that with having a 59 I have had this infection for some time. My main issue is transmission. I can’t get the thought out of my head that I have genital as well. Even tho, I have never had an outbreak down there or any type of sore that I can remember. I am female btw. My questions come with transmission.

Oral herpes:
Can you give this to coworkers or friends through normal day to day interactions?
How do I keep the children in my life safe?
Both of my grandmothers have had cold sores my whole life. Is it possible I have had this infection my whole life and didn’t know it?

Genital herpes:
I know this is an STI. But can you pass this through day to day interacts with coworkers or friends?

I have read that GHSV has a 5 percent shedding and OHSV has 25 percent. Does daily antivirals decrease this? How much do you know?

Should I be more concerned with sexual partner and not so much daily interactions with people I care about?

I’m sorry if any of the questions seem Ignorant. I am going to start daily antivirals just for my sanity.

Your HSV is likely only oral. There is no reason to think you have this in both locations without lesions that are swab test positive for HSV 1

People with very frequently recurring cold sores shed virus on about 25% of days Antivirals decrease this yes.

Should I be more concerned with sexual relationships and less about daily interactions?

I know this is a very common infection. I would just like to reduce my transmission as much as I can. Do I need to be worried every time something touches my lips or if I touch them then touch something?
