Okay so basically I got some tests everything came out negative, but the lady told me HSV-1 was positive. I did further research and found out that you can get it by literally hugging someone as a child so it’s nothing serious. I’m very annoyed though because why would this lady even tell me this? I’d rather have never known because now i feel like shit because of the stigmatism. I even found out more information about how blood antibodies test are highly unreliable. Assuming it is positive and the test wass right…I’m definitely the asymptomatic type but i have been confused with eczema type things on a video call. I even found out that the CDC stopped doing HSV-1 tests and took it off the STI panel because they don’t consider it a disease anymore.
I’ve had severe anxiety and distress on my mind about this. So I was wondering if you could help me out. I talked to other people who went through similar things, clinicians, people who work in hospitals, supervisor of some of the sexual testing center, etc. They ALL said that it is not something you have to go around telling people you have, or telling past partners etc because it literally is nothing. It is kind of like going around saying you have E.Coli or chicken pox (which nobody tests for anymore).
ANYWAYS, my question for you Terri is…since you are a verified expert is it safe to say i can walk around guilt-free and not worry about having to tell anyone or anything like that?
Secondly, are HSV-1 false positives a real thing?
My stats were Igg, 2.55 or 2.5
Can i assume that i don’t know FORSURE that i have it because the tests can be unreliable?
(I’d like to be able to tell myself that well…i probably have it..BUT i don’t know FORSURE because i’ve heard the tests can be unreliable).I really hope you don’t tell me anything that is worse than i am feeling now because i feel awful…so please choose your words carefully haha. Thankyou! 😀

Yes, I have a whole list of people with false positive HSV 1 resultsMy stats were Igg, 2.55 or 2.5

I have seen false positive for HSV 1 at this index value.(I’d like to be able to tell myself that well…i probably have it..BUT i don’t know FORSURE because i’ve heard the tests can be unreliable).
But you could have it – half the US population has it. A herpes western blot would clarify this for you. Given how worried you are about this, I would suggest that you pursue western blot testing. I have this, my husband has this, two of my three daughters have this, it is just very common. And it is definitely not transmitted with hugs – it is transmitted by kissing and by giving other people oral sex.I really hope you don’t tell me anything that is worse than i am feeling now because i feel awful…so please choose your words carefully haha. Thankyou! 😀
I did my best!Terri

I was thinking about getting the western blot test..but it is a lot of work. Do i need to disclose this to people and past partners that i might, have it?
with my stats is it worth it to get a western blot test?
have there been people with my stats 2.55 igg that came out to be false positive or is there even other people with higher stats that came out to be a false positive before?
i dont really care anymore because it just gives me anxiety knowing whether i forsure have it or not

If you really don’t care anymore, why would you do the blot?
Yes, I have seen people with that index value and higher have false positives on the HSV 1 base on the result on the blot. I can not tell you if it’s worth doing or not – that’s up to you.If you are positive for HSV 1, we cannot know if your infection is oral or genital but my position on this is that before you give someone oral sex, you should disclose that you have the cold sore virus as most infections are still oral.
